Hello Neighbors
Thanks to everyone for sharing concerns about the Board's plan to install
five speed humps
on Elmstone Drive at community expense. Our campaign to delay the Board's plan until the will of the community is understood is making headway! Since our
last contact, we've learned some interesting details.
Board minutes show that the humps will cost $15,000 or more. Half of
this payment is scheduled to come from a reduced contribution to our
community's reserve fund, with the rest coming from operating funds
set aside for Landscape Maintenance and Other Projects.
We learned from CDOT that the speed study on which the five hump
plan is based was conducted on Wednesday, May 27 between 8:30-9:00am.
In that half hour, a representative from CDOT clocked 32 vehicles in the vicinity of the
pond. The 85th percentile reading was 33.4mph.
Finally, we discovered that the off-duty policeman
employed by Thornhill is not issuing speeding citations, although one
of the Board's stated purposes in hiring him was
"to enforce speed limits and traffic safety".
If
you are aware of others in the community who oppose the Board's speed hump plan and favor other alternatives, it's not too late for them to email Thornhill...@yahoo.com and say NO to Speed Humps. We will
forward responses to CDOT, and bring hard copies with us to the Special Meeting of the Board
on July 15.
If you haven't already, we also encourage everyone to sign up with the
Board for a speaking slot about the speed hump plan on July 15.
Thanks and have a great weekend!
Terry and Charla
