This week, CDOT met with the Board's new traffic safety committee to discuss options for Thornhill.  While we wait for the Board to post the committee minutes, here is an update, as well as an invitation to share your feedback.

In spite of some Board comments to the contrary, CDOT confirms that speed humps are definitely out of consideration.  CDOT shared that Elmstone's traffic statistics fall at the low end of the urgency scale (two thirds of the streets CDOT studied recently had more serious problems).  They did express, however, a willingness to study multiple options and strategies in an effort to best meet our needs.

Before the committee meeting, some members received Board flyers inviting feedback and ideas.  Because not all of the community was invited to respond on the traffic calming issue, we asked CDOT if soliciting our group of 170 members by email would be timely and helpful.  They assured us that was the case.

We've gleaned several suggestions from the responses you've already sent re speed humps, and have collated them below.  If you have additional concerns, ideas, thoughts or needs, now is the time to speak up!   Please share which suggestions you support and oppose.

The next committee meeting is scheduled for Sept. 24, when CDOT intends to bring initial ideas for review.  Though some on the Board have expressed a desire to rush through another proposal, we believe the community must be given time to contribute and review any plan before implementation, especially as the Board will change hands in early October.
Not all suggestions are feasible, free, or affordable, so care must be taken to develop community consensus.

If you'd like your ideas considered, be sure to respond to this email.  As always, we will collate and forward your comments to the Board, the committee and CDOT, while continuing to advocate for open participation in matters affecting our community.

Thank you!
