I witnessed the accident at Kimball/Fox intersection this morning and I just wanted to make sure all of us understand how dangerous the left turn there is.  Both drivers appears to be ok considering the impact.  One was taken via ambulance possibly because of airbag impact.

The driver is making left turn from Kimball eastbound on to Fox like many of us do every day.  Traffic is stopped in the west bound left lane on Kimball with a school bus leaving a gap.  Obviously you can not see the other lane behind the school bus from the turning lane.  I think (not sure) the driver waived her in and she made the turn.  I actually saw the shadow of the car going fast in the westbound right lane and cringed in anticipation of the crash and then saw it happen.

The reason I am writing this e-mail is to make sure every one is aware of this dangerous left turn we all make every day.  Please do not make this turn unless you can see both lanes and you are clear.  Don't make the turn just because someone waved you on.  In fact, don't believe anyone waving you in anywhere (from personal experience).  They do not have the same perspective as you.  For the same reason you should not wave any one in.

Many of us have teenage/new drivers at home.  Please make sure that they understand this thoroughly.  Had it not been for the airbags and other safety features, injuries would have been very severe.  Please drive this home to your young drivers.

Sarat.

We have chosen, at heavy commute times, to not make that left turn, and instead continue driving - crossing Jones Bridge Road - and making a U-turn at the next light (the road Ocee Library is on), for safety.
Just an idea.

Everyone please be safe out there.

Regards,

Great point Sarat. And a personal thank you for conscientiously sending this out.

I would only add to Sarat and Norm's comment - that drivers AND walkers/runners also be safe out there.

I go running on Fox on my way to the park and continue to see high speed, reckless driving without any heed to speed limits, stop signs and more importantly, young ones playing, crossing etc.

Thank you both for your comments. I would like to ad that, especially until the time changes, and it is pitch dark when some of us walk to school, PLEASE look out for walkers on fox rd. There is a pedestrian crossing for a reason, even though no one seems to see it and flies through it.
Thanks

I hate to be "Debbie downer," but a small group of us neighbors fought hard against the new development on Fox rd....with the addition of those 20 homes traffic is only going to get worse on Fox. The speed study the city completed showed excess of speeding on Fox, and that's all on us, our community speeds and neglects the stop sign. As to the Left hand turn, you risk yours and your families life making that turn now that it is a double lane. It is not a safe or a viable, long turn solution and we as a community should be fighting this too. It is unacceptable, it is completely dangerous. Had we known that this was going to be the traffic pattern going into TP, we never would have purchased a home in this neighborhood....makes me wonder, if any at all, bearing that turn will have on future home sales in the new subdivision, nonetheless they'll rip down all the trees and build yet another high density home community. Gotta love Alpharetta!
