The restart that finally worked. I was supposed to start behind Lorenzo, but it told me to be behind Oliver. So in turn 3-4 I passed Lorenzo, and we started. I'm sure Lorenzo thought I was nuts, but it worked. Sorry Lorenzo.
I crashed when I came off turn 2 and lost the back end. I could've kept up with Bo and Dave and Ollie.

I hope it was fun. It looked like it might be full of give and take.

When the start finally worked out I had a good couple of laps with Dom
following me around. He overtook me onto s/f and when I went for the
slipstream I lost downforce rather suddenly, sending me into the wall.
Pitted for repairs and went out again, but the car was wrecked so I
parked it in order not to ruin someone else's race.

All the best,

Uwe

In the interests of having an even closer race I decided to send out the
winning race setup. Except for my bad pit stops, it would have been a
runaway so I would like to see some closer stuff. So everbody run my setup.
;-) It will be like a fixed setup. It should workd on all the cars I think.

I will also make it available to anyone who asks online. I just wanted to
get that one pole / win in there, lol.

First of all, if just people would read and listen to my instruction
for the starts, everything will be fine. As long as we maintain the
pack we're put into when we go on track, all works fine. That means
preserving the rows by staying (close) on the side of the car you're
placed with and also keeping close distance to the cars ahead. And I
mean really close, just like you have it initially. It's silly, I
know, but that's how they made rF work, unless it's possible to change
that, of which I'm not aware.

As for the start that finally worked, I'm sure everyone was already
quite nervous and some of us didn't even expect to ever get the green
flag. It certainly took me by surprised lol, I was in 4th gear, not
focused at all, so I lost a couple of positions right there.

Shame about the early accidents, it appeared some people took too much
risk too early on or were unaware that you have a MASSIVE loss of
downforce when you're VERY close to another car, both ahead and
behind. Especially on corner exits when you accelerate in a slipstream
and try to make a move, the front simply washes away if you're too
close. You can also lose the rear if someone is too close behind you
as they take away some of your rear wing downforce. Personally I was
lifting up slightly when running too close in corners, just in case.

Anyway, what a great battle we had with Oliver, Lorenzo and Bo. Since
Dave pulled a gap early on, our only chance was to use each other
slipstream to keep a higher average speed, so that's what we did.
Oliver, myself and Lorenzo were closing bit by bit to Bo and Dave,
sometimes running 3 wide which was both fun and scary.

Sadly Oliver lost it on one of the turn exits, but soon after Lorenzo
and myself caught Bo and started another 3 way fight. This one was
more difficult as Bo had a faster car, so he was impossible to pass as
long as he kept the lower line, so we had to force our way through at
times. It was all fair I believe though, great fun!

Dave was just a second ahead, but looking out of reach at the same
time, but I knew it was possible to get him with better pitstops. My
first stop was perfect, though I nearly went too fast in. Perfect,
except... the car had some minor damage which I didn't notice and the
crew obviously decided to "repair" it, which cost me an additional 20
seconds loss! They didn't repair a thing as usual (I wonder if, apart
from wing changes, mechanics actually repair anything and just lose
you time instead!) and I came out on the track in 6th.

After everyone pitted, i was 3rd, 15 seconds behind Lorenzo who
must've had a proper stop and went out in 1st, with Dave 6 seconds
ahead in 2nd. Bo dropped back so I was running alone and losing time
to Dave and sometimes to Lorenzo as well.

I think Lorenzo's engine cried enough or so it seemed, so I was up to
2nd, but 8-9 seconds behind Dave now. I did a great 2nd pitstop and
much to my surprise came out in 1st, 6 seconds ahead of dave, with 30
laps to go!

Of course he was taking off time lap after lap, but with 15 laps to go
the gap was just over 4 seconds and I thought it should be enough. But
then he caught up his "teammate" Bo and gained an additional advantage
from the slipstream, so the gap was suddenly reduced!

I focused very hard to do as smooth laps as possible to gain some
extra hundreds on each lap, but it helped as much as delay the moment
Dave caught up with me to the final two laps.

Dave passed me and led into the final lap. I could've passed him at
the start of the lap, but decided to wait and see. He lifted up a bit
on the back straight so I was through, but kept a high line in the
last corner, so he was back in front again.

I tucked in behind him, shifted into my special 6th gear and rocketed
ahead and on his right, but he still crossed the line 0.027 ahead to
take the win. :D Grats, Dave, well executed! ;)

Grats all and hope we have a good 2nd race,

intense and exhilerating..

but first, if i owe Dom an apology.....

from my seat you were weaving left/right.. no not weaving, zig/zagging,
right/left, left right, i didn't know if it was you, warp or the sim..
then you went hard right and i assume into the wall.

Pierre said we touched. i never felt a thing. but if we did, i'm sorry
if i was to blame, but i don't feel i was. someone else can freely give
their opinion of the incident. i'm interested.

after the craziness of the start.. Dave would pull away from the dead
stop, and before 1 second had passed, i was issued a warning for being
too slow :o - hell! give me a chance to throttle up! then before i
could fully get along side, i'm told to take up the last spot.

that happened twice. thats why i was pulling hard left and off track.. i
was told to fall in behind Lorenzo.
the next restart i tried to drag race out and promptly spun 90dg right
:P dumba$$.. you'd think i'd never started from the front row before...
oh, right! i never have - ever!

finally we're off (thanks to everyone for being patient AND especially
Hristo!!)
wow! racing was fast and tight - and incredibly fun. the eagles of
Hristo and Lo ganged up on me to slipstream past.. but each time they
did i was able to re-pass on the back straight! oh what FUN what FUN!
i've never been able to do that before either!
when Dave pitted, i was in 2d with fuel for 7 more laps yet (due to
following i'm sure) so i took over the lead - YIKES me! in the lead!
:o for about 4 laps i think, then i too had to pit....and here's where
it all fell apart. first for entering the pits too fast, a stop and go
penalty... ok, i don't mind. i'm a little disappointed, but i had so
much fun holding off and repassing people that i've usually only see
disappear in the distance i got my money's worth in the 1st 40 laps....

so i'm tooling along, and realize that i had pitted on lap 45.. even tho
i had fuel for 50+ uh-oh... so in scrolling thru the menu to change the
amount of fuel for the next stop.. i must have pressed something i
shouldn't have. i don't know what... but next thing i know i'm looking
at my desktop.. i could still hear my motor, and so i was on the brakes
and hoping... A) that no one would hit me, and B) that i wouldn't hit
the wall.... my screen had minimized (someone please tell me how) and
when i pressed to max it there i was stopped in the front straight about
in turn1 if i recall.. so off i started again... now afraid to touch any
key.. so at that point all i knew was i was in 5th... didn't know who
was ahead, or how many laps down i was....
Oliver then pitted and i moved up to 4th.. ok that answered that... and
i continued... but the fuel gauge was dropping so i turned down the
boost hoping to extend mileage... maybe it did, but not enough... and i
had to pit again with 15 laps to go.

this time i slowed going into turn 3... need to practice that bit... and
pressed the rev limiter when i was down to 60 or so heading in the pit
entrance. all good... except for one thing... in trying to adjust my
fuel load, i pressed the "+" key instead of the ">" arrown and suddenly
was IN CAR with some one else!! oh crap- + -+ - + - + scroll and
scroll... where the HELL AM I?? as the sim doesn't scroll thru the cars,
but which ever is next, so as i was passing some in the pits and some on
track were passing me, the order kept changing!

finally i was back in my own seat and stopped in pit lane - dumba$$ -
you'd think i'd never made a pitstop before.. well not too many in
fact.. but no excuse - its the keyboard fault.. it should have told me
"Don't press certain keys!"

off i go with fuel for 15 laps.. but no idea how many down i was.. with
about 4 to go, i was behind Dave and i stayed there. we caught Hristo,
but i think Hristo was still a lap or 2 ahead of me.. besides, even tho
'we' caught Hristo, i couldn't have done anything else, for when i
crossed the S/F with 3 laps to go, my fuel gauge beeped "Empty
Dumba$$" - - -

ok.. final thoughts? i got 4th!
i raced, thats RACED with some of the fastest drivers i've ever met, and
several times was able to PASS THEM! how do you think i feel?? :D
thats right! THrilled beyond words ~

so the bottom line, the person that made all that (well the good stuff)
possible, i want to thank again, DAVE, for giving me the most awesome
setup i have ever raced with- what a rush -

now, i intend to install the full 98 version... and MAYBE i'll be at
next weeks race- but no promises.. its purely a day by day
possibility/chance that i will.

till next time -
ciao!
off to celebrate
bo

Dom still races on WLAN I think, and I've seen some very serious warps
from him in the Beemer season. I begged him to use a wired connection
a few times in the past, but it seems to physically impossible for him
at the moment 8(

Many leagues ban WLAN use for a good reason, and esp. in an oval it's
not acceptable.

Also, while I wasn't present for the 2nd race, throwing insults around
like Hristo apparently did in post race chat is unacceptable, too (and
it's not the first time if I rremember correctly, all in the heat of
the moment, of course).

Keep your cool guys, the problem might be on your end without you even
knowing it after all, or at least decorate your insults with a few
smileys ;-) Try pressing Ctrl-Backspace a few times, it'll make you
feel better and put the pressure off.

All the best,

Uwe
