Hey guys,

I ran a test of Surfers Paradise a bit earlier and was extremely disappointed with how the track is made. It's so off the real thing it's a disgrace to the otherwise great track in reality.

That returned my thoughts on the idea to change the final round to an oval and I remembered Dave's suggestion about the Michigan Super Speedway. Fontana is a very similar track, but I prefer it slightly over Michigan so I looked for a version of both to test out. I found version 2.0 of the US Pits ovals (hidden in secrecy in some forum!) and downloaded both Michigan and Fontana.

Fontana isn't working though, it crashes the game midway through loading. Luckily Michigan worked fine and I was able to do some laps (using my Indy qual setup). It's completely flat out, but that should only help for having a very close race and hopefully without as much attrition as Indy.

I found a 98 qualifying onboard and after examining it there are two things that bothered me. One was that I was able to go a whole second faster than they did back then and the other that the track in the game was way too bumpy compared to the real thing.

While the first issue is no big deal, I played around with the TDF file and adjusted the bump settings accordingly, making it a much better surface all around.

So, that's how it is, folks, we're going to run Michigan for round 10 of the Summer Cup. Here is a link to the track so you can download it and practice:

Here's a qualifying lap from the real event in 98, onboard Richie Hearn (whose car we have too :D ):

And attached is the file you need to copy into the track folder and replace the original in order to get the improved surface bumps.

I hope to see most of you for this race, it's going to be a cracker, so make sure you don't miss it! ;)

Something I forgot to mention. The track is installed into Locations
\USPits\Mich_JE folder. Took me a bit of pondering to find that
out. :P

I also believe it's named Brooklyn inside the game, in case you want
to practice offline.

I just installed it on the server and set it to run it for practice.
Good luck!

Yep, Super Speedway, just like at Indy. It will allow for close and
competitive racing and diminish differences in cars and driving
skills. I hope to see more than 5-6 ppl for this one! Tell your
friends to join us as well, it's going to be a cracker. ;)

On a side note, Dom told me the surfaces have awkward grip in some
places, so there would probably be a further update for the grip
levels to bring them back to normal (i.e. 1.0 as opposed to 1.10 as it
has now!)

And one more thing, I'm expecting this race to run 200 miles like the
Indianapolis one, so 2 pitstops are the most likely strategy. Make
sure you practice stops as the pitlane entry and exit are quite tricky
here. I'm still not sure if it's safe to enforce that everyone uses
that narrow road under the banking when exiting the pits or just allow
ppl to join the track directly. Let me know what you think after
you've done some practice.

See you all soon,

be nice to know if this is coming soon, or can we say, we'll race as is?

i've not done a lap in rF or the 98s... but i can with out a doubt say -
stay off the track when exiting the pits!

Yes, I will test the grip change soon and probably make announcement
tomorrow. You can practice anyway, because there won't be a noticeable
change in handling. The track is really absolutely flat out regardless
of grip. The banking is so high that it helps turn the car easily.

As for pit exit, sure, I agree that joining on the track is bad, but
it is also very easy to lose control on that 1-car wide narrow line
down there and end up spinning on the track. We'll see.
