python.exe window keeps popping up

I just installed Thonny 4.0.1 on Windows 10, and whenever I launch it, or press the STOP button, the python.exe window keeps popping up in front of the Thonny UI. Super annoying. And when I close the window, Thonny reports "Process ended with exit code 3221225786.". 

Is there anything that can be done about this? I don't remember this window appearing on other Windows systems I installed Thonny on.

It seems that changing the executable of the local python from python.exe to python.exe fixes this.

typo. sorry. I meant to say that changing python.exe to pythonw.exe fixes this.
