Hello,

would you please get rid of political messages ("Support Ukraine"), at least as an option? Everybody is allowed to have an own view on the global political and historical situation.
Very concrete: For my grandson in elementary school, to who I will teach Python, such a message is just not understandable. I can not teach him politics at this age and a simplified message in any direction would be an insult on his intellect.

So the only effect is that I have to modify workbench.py in every installation, as long as this is possible. Which is a certain amount of work in e.g. snap packages. Should it at a point in time be not possible any more, I will not use Thonny any longer - sorry.

Regards,

Personally, as a member of the community, I vote to keep the message. I think it's an important one. Difficult questions come up all of the time, and dealing with those questions is part of being a teacher. Everybody is allowed to have their own view on a "global political and historical situation", but that doesn't mean they're entitled to hide from others' views. Especially when the other peoples' views are attempting to ignore atrocities.

So you insinuate that "other people's views" are "attempting to ignore atrocities", which means, only YOUR view is the right one, not ignoring atrocities? Exactly this attitude, that only ONE view is the right one, is the problem! I have a different view, and rest assured that I look at ALL atrocities of the Ukraine's and the surrounding countrie's, past and future. We don't live in an ideal world, we have to accept reality, even if we don't like it. An all that should be explained to a 7 year old?  Please accept: There ist NEVER ONLY ONE ACCEPTABLE OPINION!!!!!!

Quite a few leaps there. I don't intend to engage further with this discussion, since it seems to have escalated into capital letters. But regardless, I think that it's very important to mention that the thing not being accepted here is someone's opinion besides your own. Hence why you're trying to take this particular action.

Have a good day, and best of luck with your grandson.

I'll remove the button after Russian troops have left Ukraine. Until then the button remains, even if it is uncomfortable for some users. I don't think we need to continue this discussion.

Best regards

Personally, I'm sure the 1000's of Ukrainian grandchildren that have died at the hands of War Criminal Putin won't care if you stop using Thonny!

I think this discussion detracts from programming unless we:
"support little endian over big edian"

Leave the button.   It shows conviction, bravery, and a moral high ground.  Russia will be defeated.
Thank you Thonny.

I respect the beliefs of the great Programmer of Thonny. Obviously, this issue very important for him.

But when I were in his situation, I had a large list of "who to support" and an even larger list of "who not to support".
And yes - I aggree, Thomas, these lists would be really difficult to explain to grandsons before beginning the python-lessons ;-(
