Hello. Congratulations to the creators of this IDE, it looks wonderful, but I was wandering If it would be possible to use it with Python 2 instead of Python 3, which comes pre-installed, at least in the last version. And, if so, may I ask for some instructions on how to do it? Thank you for your time.

Hi!

I'm glad you like Thonny. Unfortunately Python 2 is not supported (neither for the GUI nor for the backend).

best regards,
Aivar

Hey! Is there any plan to develop a version to support 2 as well as 3?

Hi!

No. Considering the 2020 end-of-life for Python 2, I don't consider this a priority.

Aivar

Hi-

I understand it's not a priority, but here is a reason:

- some hw doesn't support AVX instruction set (eg my N4200)
- therefore I cannot run a version of Tensorflow higher than 1.5.0
- but this version of tf is only supported by python 2.7, not 3.x

So I cant use thonny for tensorflow on my Pentium!

Hi!

The solution is to use another IDE (Spyder, IDLE, PyDev, PyCharm, Atom, VS Code, ...)

Best regards,
Aivar
