Hi,
How to replace python 3.7 by Python 3.8 ?
I said "replace", not adding 3.8 along 3.7 as I have already.
Tnx

Hi!

If you mean changing Python version in Thonny+Python bundles, then it depends on your platform. Relevant code is under https://github.com/thonny/thonny/tree/master/packaging

Thonny 4.0 will be bundled with Python 3.10 or 3.9

Best regards
Aivar

Are there any updates on Thonny 4.0's release date?

I can't promise this, but I hope to get the first beta out by the end of November.

Oh that's very exciting! Sounds like we might have a final release before February? Or is that completely unlikely? I'm just trying to figure out whether I should be updating my materials before the Spring or before the Fall. I'm very hyped to take advantage of some new 3.9/3.10 features in my class!

I decided to postpone several features from 4.0 to 4.1, so it's pretty likely that stable 4.0 gets released before February.

Hello, I hate to pester you with these questions, but I was curious if you had a revised release timeline? My semester starts in a week, so we're going to be installing Thonny pretty soon. Think you'll make a big release soon?

Unfortunately I've had too little time for Thonny in the past months, and I can't make the final release of Thonny 4.0 before your semester starts. (There are certain changes related to MicroPython, which need to be in 4.0)

I'll try to publish the first beta by Monday, so that you can decide, whether you want to use it or stay with 3.3.13 for now.

best regards,
Aivar

It's not a problem for us to wait. We're planning on making our big changes requiring the next python version after the summer, so we're not in a rush.

I'm probably a nuisance by now, but I wanted to check to see if there was a plan to release Thonny 4 before our fall semester starts (end of August). I see that the beta is on the website, so I could conceivably have my students download that, but it'd be wonderful to know that the official version has changed. Any idea on whether that'll be happening?
