I am flying from Chicago to Hamburg on March 21st. The first leg is a United codeshare with a Lufthansa flight number. I have been trying to access the trip info on the United flight. How do I do that without a United confirmation number? I need to check in 24 hours before the flight. I tried the Lufthansa confirmation number and it doesn't work. The second leg is on Brussels Air codeshare with a Lufthansa flight number. The Lufthansa confirmation number works on this site. Is there a United confirmation number I can find? Thanks.
I've had the opposite situation, I booked on United but flew on a Lufthansa plane. I called United and got the Lufthansa confirmation number. With that I was able to reserve my seat. I can't remember which confirmation number I used to check in.
To be clear, are you saying you booked this through Lufthansa but its actually a United aircraft? And you tried look up the info on the Lufthansa site and their confirm number doesn't show this segment? Does it refer you to United? I would call United and ask for their confirmation number.
I had recent similar situation on Delta, except that when I went in to Delta site with Delta confirmation number, it automatically switched me over to the partner airlines website. But the Delta number did not work there, so I had to call the partner airline and they gave me a different confirmation number to use on their website. Annoying. But I was still able to confirm all the Delta segments with the Delta number, by skipping that first leg.
Our son flew from Chicago on a Lufthansa ticket with the flight operated by United. Pretty sure he had to use the Lufthansa site and locator number to access the reservation. Seem to recall he had some kind of trouble checking in online, but we got to O'Hare in plenty of time and he checked in and checked his bag at a Lufthansa kiosk. There was an attendant to assist with that process, as well. You may not want to hear this, but he reported that the seat on the United flight was miserably uncomfortable.
My wife and I are flying on a United ticket with a connection to Flybe in April. I finally figured out that to access our Flybe reservation online, I had to put in my middle name in addition to my first name.
Yes, do get your Lufthansa number reservation number (sometimes called a PNR). Call to get it if it's not on your reservation information. Keep both these PNR's handy, as these are what you need to access your reservation, whether it's to get a special meal, choose a seat, or if there's a problem and you have to call the airline(s).
As said above, regardless of how you booked the ticket or what the flight number is, you often (of course, not always) have to go to the website of the airline actually operating that segment to choose seats or book meals.
Unless Lufthansa has changed since our last flights with them last April, online check in starts abou 24 hours prior, although we have been able to get in at about the 30 hour point. Seat election has been good at early checkin.
So you have a booking confirmation from LH but your flight is operated by UA? Juste locate your alphanumeric booking reference (aka Filekey or PNR) on your booking confirmation. The UA site will recognize it and show your UA PNR, which you will use for the check in. I fly regularly MUC to ERW on UA and back on LH using a ticket issued by LH, and never have run into a problem. And yes, on Star Alliance flights you will check in with the actual carrier.
In general I agree with sla. Even if the machinery is slightly different, you should be able to get the OTHER airline's (whichever it is) online, without having to wait in a phone queue for a live person. We buy United and fly Lufthansa over the Atlantic quite often. I won't buy a flight that I can't get a seat assignment for, promptly-but a day later is OK for me.
Still don't have seats for the second leg, flown with Brussels Air, thru Lufthansa. At least my Lufthansa confirmation number works on the Brussels Air site. I can't make a seat assignment here till 24 hours ahead. The flight leaves at 9:25 am Brussels time, which is 3:25 am Chicago time. Does that mean I can check in at 3:25 am the day before? Do I go thru the Brussels sute for the seats?
I booked a ticket with Lufthansa (through their website) about a month ago. This was a roundtrip with the outbound trip consisting of 3 flights, and the return trip consisting of 3 flights. When I booked, Lufthansa accepted my credit card and showed a CONFIRMED page where they confirmed my payment and my flight. I got an email with my booking information. All 6 flights are listed as CONFIRMED in the e-mail.
Yesterday I tried to check in to my flight, and I suddenly see that the very first leg of my flight is cancelled. There is an error message at the top of my booking page and it says I should contact the call center. The other flights are still listed as CONFIRMED. I have not been assigned Electronic ticket numbers for any flight. Under my booking it says PAID and it lists the last 4 digits of my credit card. I am unable to check in to the flight.
After many - many - hours trying to get hold of Lufthansa through various means, I am now finding out that my first flight is operated by Copa, and when Lufthansa tried using my card to pay Copa for that flight, Copa rejected this payment due to my bank's currency vs the currencies that are accepted by them. Turns out that for this reason, Lufthansa never charged me for this flight. Despite it still showing as PAID on their own website, I was never charged (I have just confirmed this with the bank and indeed I was never charged). They e-mailed me about this issue a day after my booking, but this e-mail went to my spam folder and I was not aware of this whole issue until I was about to check in.
According to one Lufthansa employee, if I can pay Copa the outstanding amount in the right currency then they can take the remaining payment and my flight can be confirmed. According to Copa, they have no information in their system about their flight because Lufthansa only sent them a booking reference number without any flight information. According to other Lufthansa employees, I must book a whole new flight (currently at unaffordable prices given that my flight is today). My flight is supposed to be in 7 hours and I am at a loss as to what to do.
We can only guess, but the reasoning you listed that they gave you seem rather fishy. Lufthansa would never use your credit card to buy a Copa flight; maybe you booked from an associate of Lufthansa (like eDreams or gotogate or whatever), or from some scammer to begin with - again, we can only guess. Not having any electronic ticket number also heavily points to scam. You should never never never accept a missing e-ticket as ok; you must get a ticket number after booking, or it's a scam or another problem that must be addressed.
It is your duty to enter an email address that you monitor; what else can they do if there is a problem than email you? So you can hardly blame them for the email being in your spam folder, and you probably will end up losing the whole trip, or having to re-buy the copa leg - always assuming there is a real booking...
For this, go to www.lufthansa.com, and not any link anyone emailed you, and check with your booking code there. If it is there, you can probably save your trip by either moving or rebooking the Copa leg. If they have never heard of it, you fell for a cheater... try to get your money back through your credit card company.
0> Contact directly Lufthansa's customer service by phone and try to figure out with them what actually happened, they may be willing to help you to resolve your issue.
1> Call your credit card, explain them what happened (you never recived any tickets even if it seems you got a confirmation) and that you want to have the transaction reimbursed. You'll have to file a so called fast-claim form with some information and attach some proof of you being scammed. Usually the credit card will reimburs you.
1b >If you paid with SEPA Direct Debit less than 8 weeks ago you're still able to ask your bank to withdraw the payment (without any need of proof)
2> If they ask you for an email address, provide one that you ckeck (and also giving a look to the spam often is not a bad idea)
Yes! As long as you have an e-ticket number and the flight segments on your e-ticket match your reservation, you are all set! I would also double check on the Emirates website to ensure your ticket number shows up there too.

What do i do? can i go to the airport with my little reservation number and passport?
Thank you
Thank you for the great explanation! Recently, I had a flight cancelled through American Airlines due to weather. I called AA to rebook and the AA agent could only find an available flight through United Airlines. The AA agent gave me a confirmation number but did not reissue the tickets. When I arrived at the airport with my family, United had given my seat to someone else because although I had a confirmation number, I did not have the tickets reissued. This all happened within a span of about 36 hours. I arrived early at the airport for check in. There were no other available seats for me until a week later. My entire trip was cancelled because my tickets were not reissued. Am I entitled to compensation from the airline?
