The Pepperl+Fuchs Viator USB HART interface provides a flexible link between your PC or handheld and HART networks. It can be used to commission, service, calibrate, and acquire data from any HART field device or transmitter, making it a powerful tool for technicians. With our ViatorCheckBT software, you can troubleshoot the Viator modem from a PC or HART-capable device. In this blog article we guide you step by step through the troubleshooting process.
If you are using a third-party software and are unable to connect, ViatorCheckBT helps you discover if the issue is with your software or with the modem. The software scans the ports on the PC for the Viator modem and allows the user to view the primary variable of the HART device connected to the modem.
The ViatorCheckBT software will download when the driver package for the Viator modem is running and installed on the PC. To get started, type ViatorCheckBT in the search bar and click the icon to open the software.
The ViatorCheck program will scan the USB ports on the PC for the modem. If the Viator driver is installed correctly, the modem will appear under Active Com Ports. If the modem does not show up, either the modem software was not installed correctly or there is a conflict with a port on the PC.
2. In the Active Com Port list, double-click the com port with the modem. Select Check HART Device 0 if the HART device does not have a different address assigned. HART device addresses can be set in multidrop and have a HART address in the range of 0 to 63 based on what HART protocol revision it has.
3. Ensure that HART device 0 is only scanning for devices with that address. For devices with a HART address other than 0, use Check All HART Devices. This feature scans all 63 channels if the address of the HART device is unknown.
4. Select Read Primary Variable to see if the HART modem is able to tap into the HART data from the field device. If no HART data is displayed, the connection of the modem could be wrong or a field device could be damaged.
Please note that ViatorCheckBT is a diagnostic tool for checking if the modem is operating correctly with the PC. For configuration of a field device, Pepperl+Fuchs recommends PACTware or another DTM-based platform.
The USB-C MicroLink modem provides the hardware interface between Highway Addressable Remote Transducer devices (HART) and a Windows PC with a USB port. Universal Serial Bus (USB) drivers make MicroLink compatible with most software developed for RS-232 serial port interface modems. MicroLink appears as an RS-232 Com port to your software.
A rugged design makes MicroLink an ideal choice for field engineers and technicians who service HART devices in an industrial environment.
MicroLink is compatible with all certified HART devices and all leading HART configuration and monitoring software that us an RS-232 serial port for the interface.
I am using a peperl and fuchs usb-hart modem, i know it works as i am bench testing an instrument and can see its feedback using the software supplied with the modem through COM4 on my simatic field PG.
sry somehow it's not clear to me what have Step7 something to do with this HART Modem. Can you pls again better describe what you want to do with this HART Modem and Step7? In case you want communicate your PLC with some Field HART devices you need probably have serial module attached to PLC, prepared own HART comm driver and then collect data from field HART device.
Look carefully to Single Client capabilities, i read there only RS232 serial HW port is capable do this (I see this there) and other possibilities. I think USB general adapter to RS232 (also if Modem acts like this) looks to me not compatible. I think better you call Support or send Support request. You can also wait some time if you want, maybe someone have exact experience but i see this compatibility there like mentioned interfaces (PB, RS232,...) and not with I/O cards of course.
Overview
The VIATOR HART modem is a PC communication link to HART networks for commissioning, servicing, calibrating, or acquiring data from any HART instrument or transmitter. The modem operates on low power, is isolated, and fully HART-compliant.
Software driver
The VIATOR modem software provides the link between the HART instrument and the personal computer. The software driver is included with every modem and can be downloaded from the manufacturer.
Designed for easy use
The modem is enclosed in a small, rugged ABS plastic case, suitable for the industrial environment. The modem connects to your computer depending on the version with a Bluetooth connection, a short integral cable terminating in a USB A connector or a RS-232 connector, and connects to a field instrument with an integral cable terminating in two test clips.
