I agree with Traci on demolishing Pucci's apartments. That's one of
the most important things. If the owners can't afford to demolish the
building, couldn't the Borough pay the costs and have them sign the
property over to the Borough? I'm not sure how that works, but it
needs to go. Once that is gone, you can put in a little park. Not a
childrens' park though. See if the owners behind it will allow a
mural to be painted on the side of it's building that faces Third
Street or plant evergreens along the back so it's green all year round
and you don't see the mill. Maybe put a natural fence around it with
large boulders. You could scatter some park benches, tables and
planters through the area. Put in a walking path to the benches with
the same motif of the new sidewalks.
Same thing with the old Third Street bar. I'm not sure if anyone has
lived there since the flood. If not, tear that down and do the same.
Plant some trees.
Across the street where there is a block of chain link, if new
sidewalks are put in, incorporate long planters, maybe three broken up
with a bench or two. Plant some flowering bushes or small trees. I
would definately plant some creeping vine plants that will climb the
chain link fence (morning glory has flowers that bloom all summer
long).
You can't tear down all the "not so nice" apartments along that
street, but at least you can break it up with some natural beauty.
