YesI agree. I had planned on contacting support about it. My biggest concern was the order I was getting ready to make. If it was wide spread I was gong to look at another model. I already have ordered the new ones.

I have several of these. My users are complaining of several things including the keyboard issue. They say the num lock turns off on a whim and the power indicator will go from plugged in to running on battery.

My laptop keyboard is not working right. While I type, many keys do not respond, I have to press them repeatedly to get them to work. If I hold anything down it only will give one letter, not multiple like normal.

Did the previous poster actually read any of the links I provided? In what way are those irrelevant to the keyboard issue reported by the two first posts? Especially interesting is the HP customer advisory letter about a known BIOS issue:

Keyboard combinations of 4 or more keys (for example, H+U+O+F11) fail to register with the operating system. Additionally, when typing quickly on the keyboard, some keystrokes may fail to register with the operating system (for example, when quickly entering 10 letters, only 9 may register and appear on screen.)

It may very well be a hardware issue with the keyboards. But generally it is quite common to check for any software conflicts before sending a device for hardware repairs. If contacting HP support (or any other manufacturer) they will most likely follow a checklist regarding software issues.

Maybe the first two posters already did extensive troubleshooting prior reporting the keyboard issue here but it is impossible to know since it wasn't mentioned in the posts. Actually their issue might already be solved by hardware repair or software updates but we don't know since it hasn't been reported here.

The problem i have with the keyboard is while in the middle of typing the keyboard completely stops working. The only way to get it to work again is to restart the computer. There is no rhyme or reason for this happening one minute it's fine next nothing.

I have somwhat similar problem with my 4530s keyboard. W,S and X keys completely stops working sometimes and then it stars working again, somtimes after a restart and sometimes a few repeated pushes does the trick.

I have already reformatted my notebook more than once and installed correct drivers with no luck. I have also upgraded my BIOS to see if that fixes the problem but the keyboard problem just reappeared a few hours later.

I suspect that the Probook 4530 has problems with its keyboard device driver (at least when you actually load programs, one or more of which may interefere with the driver). I have replaced the keyboard. (HP provides a free replacement keyboard and I thank HP for that.) But the problem remains. The workaround I found is to double click the cap lock, each shift key, the ctrl key, Fn, windows key, alt, alt gr. This then frees up the keyboard from the "stuck" key, at least for awhile. Since the keyboard itself is not sticking and the stuck key is always the control key and shift lock, I highly suspect that the device driver is buggy.

As others have noted, HP has issued no updated driver. As I wrote at the start, I suspect that some other program (like Skype) interacts with the driver to create the problem and HP doesn't test the driver with real life programs running. In any case, since the problem, while persistant, is not continual, it would be a bear to debug.

Just reinstalled a HP Probook G1, and everything worked as it should after I finished the install, but after all the updates had been installed during last night, the Keyboard/touchpad will not work (I have also tried with a usb keyboard).

Hi , looks like a windows driver problems in my opinion. You are not able to use the computer with external usb? thats weird. Also keyboard driver i think its native , have to work it without install nothing. If you havent install a lot of things , maybe the best choice its to reinstall the Windows.

Hi Johan! Very happy to see that the community is assisting you! If the above helpful suggestion does not resolve your issue, please update the thread and Priscilla@HP and I shall also help troubleshoot!

After installing this update, some USB devices and onboard devices, such as a built-in laptop camera, keyboard or mouse, may stop working. This may occur when the windows update servicing stack incorrectly skips installing the newer version of some critical drivers in the cumulative update and uninstalls the currently active drivers during maintenance.

Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu. Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.

Hi, and thanks for your reply. I am going to try it right now.

But I deleted keyboard driver, than PC suggested me to restart my laptop. After I did it my keyboard worked fine. But then when I shut down and turn it on again my keys ( t and g) are not working again. But If i repetedl uninstall that keyboard driver it works fine again utnill another reboot. So i think it is not keboard fault but raher driver fault.

this morning my HP Probook 450 keyboard sopped working properly again. I have the same issue - my keyboard buttons ( t and g) aren't working. I tried thoes settins HP assistant gave me the first time and they didn't help.

I think there may be a hardware issue. Recently I have found a company named Replacement Laptop Keys from Google searching. They replace the laptop keys that are not working properly. They also provide the key installation guide.

None of the above works.

But, mouse and keyboard works fine in BIOS.

And they work when using a Linux live dvd.

What can this be? Any suggestions? It works fine in Bios so not a hardware problem ?

I bought this laptop a little over a month ago and the keyboard has stopped working twice in that time. Each time the HP support has told me how to fix this problem, but since it happened twice I am worried that it will be a...

All the F-keys have a symbol on it. Normally you would press Fn + your to use it.On this laptop, it's reversed. The symbol is what you get when you press the button normally and you have to press Fn + F-key to get the usual action.

On most HP and Compaq notebook PCs, it is necessary to press and hold the function key (fn) while pressing one of the f1 through f12 keys to activate the default functions; such as, increasing or decreasing the brightness of the display, the sound volume, sleep, keyboard lock, etc. On the HP Envy notebooks and other notebooks with advanced BIOS options, the function keys can be configured so that it is not necessary to press and hold the fn key.

I can use Shift+Fn (actually Fn + Shift, button-down-order seems to matter here) on my Elitebook to invert/swap Fn and F-Keys (aka "lock Fn"). The keyboard indicates the current mode with a little light on the Fn key and also shows the switching option printed on the Shift-Key, see screenshots attached. Sometimes it's worth checking the printings on the keyboards before using google thought - learned it the hard way ^^

No key combinations at all worked that I saw in this thread. the only option was bios. My laptop has zero options for changing this feature, except for the fn+fn command which changes it for only the next usage, not useful. This laptop has no "Fn Lock" feature on the keyboard.

Do they work in the BIOS page? If yes then it could a Windows driver issue. Check in the Device Manager. They may have or not have an exclaimation mark by them. Regardless just uninstall them and let Windows re-install them.

The other thing could be the keyboard locking. Not sure if on your model. Try pressing and holding the right Shift key for 8 seconds. Doing this should unlock the keyboard. One of those "features" on some HP machinies!

I am currently experiencing an issue with my HP Probook 650 G1 laptop keyboard. Despite my attempts to install drivers and troubleshoot the issue, my keyboard still doesn't work. Interestingly, when I press the CAP or VER NUM keys on my external keyboard, the corresponding keys on my laptop keyboard light up, indicating that electric current is still passing through the keyboard. I am unsure what is causing this problem and would greatly appreciate any advice on how to resolve this issue. Thank you in advance for your help.

I have tried updating the system and keyboard drivers, as well as running the troubleshooting tool in Windows. However, these attempts have not resolved the issue. I was expecting that by updating the drivers and troubleshooting the problem, my laptop keyboard would start working normally again. Unfortunately, the problem persists, and I am unsure what else to try.

This is a hardware issue. Your keyboard has a life cycle usually 2 million key strokes. What could be the issue is keyboard itself. Wiring to the key or the risers could be faulty and not making proper contact to the specific key. I would recommend replacing the keyboard if other keys are not working.
