Hi Thinkwalkers,
Someone finally asked me to schedule a walk. These days that’s the best way to do it. The requester is only three people, so if you have never been on my walk in the Wiggle (Lower Haight neighborhood), there’s plenty of room to join.
The catch? It’s in two days!
I realized I have too much going on to handle sign-ups. Since it’ll be a weekday and daytime and short notice, I suspect few folks are available, anyway. Rather than make reservations, just show up to join us. Don’t be late!
We’ll meet (2:30) at the east steps (toward the park, not the street) of the Harvey Milk Community Center in Duboce Park. We’ll do a loop of less than a mile, stopping lots to discuss and look at photos and maps (not a lot of walking, so dress warmly!) for about 2 hours, ending a couple blocks away.
Topics will vary depending on who is there, but may include flood and climate history, civil rights history, transportation history, the founding of San Francisco, photographic history, the reversal of the great migration, dunes, creeks and such.
This is one of the most popular Thinkwalks I have—in fact one of just two I sorta repeat frequently in some form. Many folks have already been on it. So I’ll feel lucky if we get a group together at this hour.
At the end of the walk, please make a donation of $20 to $40 cash, Venmo, Paypal.
Be well!
Joel
