I am trying to host a Thinkup installation, but it is not very successful.

Facebook is all wrong, setup procedure is very different than the documentation.
after some settings, it allows me to add, but FB says the app needs to be approved before allowing certain permissions, and without those, there is absolutely no facebook data being crawled.

is the free self-hosted Thinkup dead now?

Hi Rami,

I recently upgraded my self-hosted ThinkUp installation from the
latest beta version to the new master version, which is quite a jump
in terms of functionality, and everything seems to be working
normally. Looking at the mailing list, there are other people who have
reported similar problems, which makes me think that in the time
between the last beta and now FB has changed their authentication flow
a bit. This may mean that the old betas are no longer able to request
the FB permissions.

As for the status of the self-hosted solution, ThinkUp is still
open-source, and as I understand it all the code that runs on the
hosted site is available on GitHub. Gina was still waiting for
feedback from people (err..including me) on how the latest code
version compares to the latest beta downloads:

before pushing such a big change live.

I'm in the process of writing up a blog about how I updated my version
of ThinkUp - when I've got this together I'll post it up here in case
it helps people upgrade.

I don't know if this helps you much in the short term though! If you
have any other questions, or need clarification don't hesitate to post
them here.

Thanks James for the response,

The new changes to Facebook permission makes the whole self-hosted ThinkUp useless (mostly), and i doubt that all the users of ThinkUp can request their installations to be reviewed by Facebook to allow the permission request (the review process requires a fully configured application, with description, icons, graphics, and a demo username that reviewers can test themselves during the process), I did not even want to set all these things, because I am quite sure it will be denied.

any workarounds?

Thanks
Rami
