Everyone loves movies - Malaysians are no exception to the rule. We watch them to escape. We watch them to laugh and to cry. We watch them to hear stories of faraway lands and made-up creatures. Above all - movies push the boundaries of our imaginations to inspire change.


It’s no wonder that the movie theater industry has grown by 72% over the past 5 years to almost RM 700 million.

So, what movies are Malaysians most interested in watching in 2015? As the main destination for all entertainment, YouTube holds some clues for us. Here are some of the top trailers that Malaysians searched for during the first week of 2015!



Seventh Son

Genre: Action, Adventure, Fantasy

Director: Sergey Bodrov

Description: Young Thomas (Ben Barnes) is the seventh son of a seventh son, and must learn to battle the powerful witch Mother Malkin (Julianne Moore) under the tutelage of John Gregory (Jeff Bridges).



Yennai Arindhaal

Genre: Action

Director: Gautham Vasudev Menon

Description: The heavily anticipated mega budget movie starring Ajith Kumar, Arun Vijay, Trisha Krishnan and Anushka Shetty is bound to be a hit.



Furious 7

Genre: Action, Crime, Thriller

Director: James Wan

Description: Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham) seeks revenge against Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his family for the death of his brother.



Aambala

Genre: Comedy

Director: Sundar C.

Description: Starring Vishal Krishna and Hansika Motwani as co-stars, the movie also features the musical talents of the duo group Hiphop Tamizha



Avengers: Age of Ultron

Genre: Action, Adventure, Fantasy

Director: Joss Whedon

Description: When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and it’s up to the Avengers to stop Ultron.


Very tellingly, only one out of these movies is a comedy while the rest are action movies. It’s also great to see strong interest for movies out of India in Malaysia. Hope you enjoyed seeing what your fellow Malaysians are looking forward to! Have a great weekend, everyone.
