Malaysian Habits During Chinese New Year It’s that time of the year again when Malaysians who celebrate Chinese New Year take time off to visit friends and family, and maybe eat a little too much. But what’s really on our minds as we visit and re-connect with our loved ones? Let’s look back at 2014’s Chinese New Year week for some ideas.
We can hypothesize that Malaysians are generally traveling away from Kuala Lumpur back to their hometowns in Peninsular Malaysia - farther north and south. And strangely enough - they may be eating out more than eating in! Restaurant owners who keep their businesses open during this period are probably extra happy this festive period. Expect some extra angpows from them! Interestingly enough as well, during Chinese New Year week, Malaysians are thinking of traveling! This happens broadly all over Malaysia’s major cities, but particularly strongly in Ipoh. A lot of domestic travel ideas begin forming, maybe because extended families want to make the most of their time together. Hope everyone enjoyed this week’s edition of Chinese New Year insights. Happy preparing for delicious meals and precious time with family!
