A couple dates happily, but eventually the man realizes the woman he loves is the heiress of the chaebol corporation for which he works. When he is framed for attempted murder of the chairman, he goes on the run and while presumed dead, must prove his innocence and get to the bottom of the corruption.
Rushing over to the man, Jung-hyun recognizes Director Seo, who now sports a bloody gash on the head. Seo lurches forward with the last of his strength and tries to strangle Jung-hyun, presumably in self-defense.
Wow I love these recaps. This show and DGCH were some of my first dramas and it's great to look back. I have to say, Korea has come a very long way in the last 5 years. There is such a huge difference in terms of visual quality between this drama and the dramas of today.
I fell in love with Lee Da Hae here,
then had a love-hate relationship later in East of Eden?
Like you said, she was missing her spark in acting she used to have,
but this was on of the many first melo I fell in love with.
This is really good!:)
i too, fell in love with LDH here. then, in MG i was happy she gained big name. but lately, in these past few years, my opinion, she's quite.. i dont know how to put it up in words.. but sort of giving an arrogance (?) vibe around her. i couldnt read any news about her without feeling irritated at her.
Thank you for this 1st episode recap! I haven't watched Green Rose, but it has always been one of those dramas that I think abt watching. I'd seen a clip of the chase off the bridge awhile back and thought it was awesome. Haven't watched it because I don't think I can handle 16-hours of seeing the main character so wronged and watching the girl he loves be engaged to someone else. I'd be so angry for him that I'd want him to just take a machine gun to everything and everyone. I don't think I can even make it through the Count of Monte Cristo.
You know, this kdrama reminds me of Resurrection. It aired in the same year and had a similar revenge plotline, along with the angst that comes with the hero not being able to tell the woman he loves who he really is. Only it had the interesting twist of incorporating the doppleganger plot device as well. I LOVED Resurrection and Uhm Tae woong and Han Ji min in it. Maybe I'll start Green Rose then. After finals are over that is.
I swear I just did the exact same thing. I feel a little guilty for being a waste of space yesterday and today, but kinda good-guilty. I've never watched Green Rose, so I'll guess I'll go watch this now. After I use the bathroom. And restock on snacks, soda, and beer.
I loveddddd this drama. I think it was my second lee dae hee drama after My girl and my first Go Soo drama. And boy did I fall in love with Go Soo. My favorite Go Soo drama thus far. I highly recommend this drama guys!!!!
I never heard of Go Soo before Will It Snow For Christmas. But I came to like him so much after that and watched his previous movies including Green Rose. I second JB's opinion that his acting was raw in GR. Actually this isn't my fave drama because I expected too high on his performance. It's a pale comparison to his acting in WISFC. But I realized GR was his earlier work. I'm glad now he's made a big improvement.
Lee Da Hae and Go Soo really had amazing chemistry here-such a wonder because they were only like 20% together in the series-most of the time she was with the second/bad guy. That's a skill that not many actresses had, and LDH was just barely 20 years old at that time.
yes, she is loosing some spark in acting, but not totally lost it-she will come back. she is still young.
O___O But what happens?? How does Jung-Hyun clear his name and defeat Hyung-Tae? Does he end up with Su-Ah, or does he die? What happens to Yu-Ran and President Oh? GAAAH you can't just start to sum up an amazing story and then NOT TELL THE END. *headdesk* Please keep going! Please get a guest recapper or *something*, but please sum up the ending! I MUST KNOW WHAT HAPPENS!! TT-TT
JH came back to Korea with a new identity, made business with SR and opened up his case back even though everyone thought he was dead. He then tried to re-enact the scene of the crime by kidnapping ? and bringing President Oh to the mansion. Prsident Oh was awake from coma but unable to speakand and just lay in the bed. JH recruited special medical expertise to help with his recovery.
SuAh never believed that JH was dead & when first met JH with a new identity knew it was him. But he denied it, so they hv this silence love relationship, where she can only look at him from afar until he's name is cleared and they can be together again. Loved the scene when SuAh visited his dad in the mansion and thank JH, and she was desperately wanted to touch him but held back.
Oh...well, that's better than nothing. Thank you very much, ye kind poster. ^_^ I can sleep peacefully tonight, though I'm still really curious about more of the details.....hmm, maybe Green Rose is worth sacrificing 23 hours of my life. ^_^
I love that you are featuring this drama in your first episode series! Green Rose holds a special place in my heart... Like you, I also loved the romance thread; I really, really rooted for the main couple to get together. The episode where LDH's character first sees GS's character when he comes back as a powerful businessman was so heartbreaking for me.
back then i hardly watch a melo (even more when it's dubbed in mandarin) so i didnot watch it religiously. that particular scene - when she realized it was him (it was on the stage or something) - was so memorable to me. i remember holding my breatch & my heart was abt to burst as well.
that drama is a family drama where the story revolved around the same setting, Chaebol daughter (minddle child of 3) working secretly in their company falling in love with the honest & hardwoking employee in their company. Anyway the part that
I loved about that drama is not their love story its the love story of the youngest of the chaebol sibling.
She was the baby/maknae in the family who was raised as the usual chaebol daughter groomed to be the epitome chaebol wife. She was taught to follow the usual order of chaebol arranged marriage standard, learn music & dance, be always pretty and marry a chaebol son so that their chaebol money will stay within the chaebol.. (kekekeke sorry for too many emphasizing too much about the chaebol part). but like your usual Kdrama, she accidentally meets "the guy". unlike her unni and green rose, the guy she feel in love with was way beneath the chaebol family notice. The guys turns out to be an orphan, who didn't finish school due to being detained in a jail when he fought in school (criminal record) who is an unknown boxer. talk about too much bad bad to worst luck. anyway their story was one that really made me fall in love with that drama. although the ending was a sad one,
I still think that their love story was one of the greatest in Kdrama history...
aw Green Rose , it being back memories . yes i was so drawn into their love .even if their romance scenes were so much lesser if compared to the current dramas now . but you never doubt his faith in finding back his own name in order to love her again . and i agreed LDH had lost her spark in acting ..i kinda of missed her .in the pre My Girl days .and in this drama too .if not for LDH . the character written is indeed flat .because of her performance, it becomes convincing that she is a woman deserved Jung-hyun love. As for Go soo , yup . his acting wasnt A class but it was enough to be marked as improvement over his past projects . and i think i was moved by the determination he poured into the role .which is necessary to make Jung Hyun work . i cant forget that scenes of him in jail when he learnt of the tragedy of his mother .
i think this drama have a a happy ending, pretty much I think since they did end up together
I like this drama pretty much...
but i prefer Wonderful Life, like RAE, I wish for a recap for that drama...
me too..
i was rooting for them to be together, was so sad when he gave up in the wooing eugene in the end...
i mean I love the 2 male actors but Lee ji hoon's character in that drama is just like my ideal man...
my favourite of course would be All In then Resurruction.
SUprisingly resurriction stars Han Ji Min who act as young Song Hye Kyo in All In and Uhm Tae Woong which is in DGCH which youi just recap.
ps/ you should make a recap for classics melodrama. there's not much drama like that nowadays. kdrama was very good in mello and they stopped it. Now it has too much rom-com. Not that i dont like it. i would recommend MISA @ I'm Sorry I Love U cuz it's a great drama.(First that make me cry).
Yesss.. memories indeed! This was my first introduction to Korean drama world that got me hooked to K dramas since then. It was certainly a big hit in the Philippines (where I live) when it was shown on local tv (dialogues were translated to local dialect, of course). During the airing of its last episode, I went on an official out-of-town trip and was not able to watch it since we were in transit then (making me so miserable). The next day though, while we waiting for lunch to be served after a meeting, almost all the lady-participants of that meeting were talking about the ending episode of Green Rose. So with that, my curiosity was at least somewhat satisfied. I still longed to see the ending episode though, such that I was immensely happy when I finally got a DVD copy of the drama. To this day, I would say, it was one great Kdrama.
This is the only melodrama that I love and was able to finish from start to end. It was one of the dramas that got me hooked in kdramas...wow never thought it's already five years...still so fresh in my mind...
I tried watching this a long time ago, but found the acting to be a bit underwhelming, and was afraid to watch a series when I knew the main character was going to eventually die (in a sad, almost pathetic way).
