Our June meeting will be a Garden Walk on MONDAY, JUNE 19. Please note that this is the THIRD Monday in June, not our usual date.
The garden walk/tours will take place in Catonsville
AND will include a plant exchange. The tours will include some gardens we
saw last year and some new ones.
Garden Touring- Our starting point will be Janet McGlynn's house, 1002 Magruder
Ave, not far from the Catonsville Post Office. There is plenty of
street parking.
To allow time for the most garden viewing, early birds can start
from 1002 Magruder Ave as early as 5 or 5:15 pm. The official
start time is 5:30 pm. There will be slightly shorter tours for
those who must arrive after 5:30. We will finish garden touring by
about 7:15 and have pot luck dinner at Janet's house.
As with last year's Catonsville tour, there will be
houses/gardens in each direction from the start point. Janet will
provide a map, addresses, and advice on which route(s) to take and
send us out in small groups. Wine may be involved. You should have
flexibility to visit quite a few gardens and to pick those of
greatest interest to you.
For those who wish to limit their walking, there will be several
gardens within a block and several that are a short drive with
good parking and no steps to go up or down.
Plant exchange- This is a great time of year to trade plants (indoor and
outdoor), seeds, and plant supplies. Bring whatever you want to
give away. All items will be placed in the front yard where
everyone can see them while coming and going. Hopefully, you will
go home with something new for your garden.

Hello to all. On SATURDAY, June 3rd, the THGC will be installing a garden space at our neighborhood Hunting Hills swim club at 9am. Catherine Van Allen and I will acquire plants at Sun Nursery and organic garden soil at Hollin’s Organic Products the day prior. I drew a site plan, noting the surrounding walkways, steps, flagstone retaining walls and existing shrubs, plants and a tree. At our recent meetings, guest speakers have presented tips on establishing new gardens with a special emphasis on the use of native plants that attract pollinators and butterflies. We intend to incorporate those ideas and to adapt a plan drawn by landscape designer, Nancy Grabowski, who spoke at a recent meeting. Volunteers are needed. Please arrive at 9am. I have a large wheel barrel for moving the garden soil. A second would be helpful along with your basic garden tools. Also, there is a large tree stump cut low to the ground upon which we can do a container garden as a focal point. Daphne has a large decorative pot that we can use, I’d like to go bigger. Can someone donate one. Let us know who can help. See you then. Jeff.
