At our April meeting we had a great speaker and a wonderful turnout, including many new folks.
The second Monday of May has snuck up on us and therefore this month we will be having two opportunities to get together with Garden Club folks.
Tomorrow night, Monday, May 8th, we will host a discussion regarding a proposal to use the Gundry property for an Urban Farm/Affordable housing. This property connects up to the lower part of Ten Hills and goes to Frederick Road. It was thought that since we are the Garden club and since this proposal concerns Urban Farming, that we might want to hear more about it and share our thoughts.
It is possible that this discussion will only be of interest to those who live in Ten Hills, however all are invited!
We will meet at the St. Bartholomew's Parish House at 7:00 p.m. Some wine, soft drinks and snacks will be available.
Here are a few highlights of the proposal:
* A 5-acre urban farm, with educational activities, small animals (chickens & goats), and a local produce stand.
* The farm is subsidized by development of 14 row houses.
* Their soil development program reduces flooding.
* Urban agriculture projects in Baltimore have a good track record.
* There was an extensive vetting process for the proposal selected:
The full proposal is attached to the end of this email.
Then the following Monday, May 15th we will gather at 6:30 on the deck at the Cover's home, 5109 Edmondson Ave. for a potluck and planning meeting. We will be discussing the Garden Walks which will take place in June and July as well as our plans for the 2023-24 program year.
And since the club voted at our last meeting to take on a garden space at the Hunting Hills pool, we need to put together an actual committee of people who will see the project through.
We can also have an update on the butterfly gardens and start the process of nominations for officers for next year.
Please come both Mondays or only one- whichever suits you. However, it would be helpful to have an RSVP so we know how many to plan for.
