Companies Pivotal to Development, State-Owned Enterprises Subject of Global Conference |

State-owned enterprises (SOEs) are critical to development – accounting for large swaths of many developing-country economies and delivering vital services. The Financial Management Umbrella Program supports a robust program to enhance SOE performance and governance. That program brought together SOE leaders from more than 50 countries in Seoul, April 27-30, 2026, in partnership with the Korean Ministry of Finance and Economy and the Korea Institute of Public Finance. The conference served as a platform for peer learning and knowledge exchange.. |

The first-ever standard for public sector climate-related disclosures, developed with support from the Financial Management Umbrella Program, was released by the International Public Sector Accounting Standards Board (IPSASB) in January 2026. The standard is expected to increase transparency and accountability in how public funds are used to address sustainability, informing both accountability and decision making. A global launch of the standard was held at the World Bank in March 2026. |

Program Strengthens Corporate Financial and Sustainability Reporting An ongoing Financial Management Umbrella Program initiative is helping to develop companies’ ability to align their financial and sustainability reporting with international standards. Called the Enhancing Accounting, Auditing, and Sustainability Reporting (EAASURE) program, the aim is to improve reporting practices and support the rollout of sustainability reporting across the Europe and Central Asia region. |

A new iteration of the successful Public Sector Accounting and Reporting (PULSAR) program is at work across 12 countries in Europe and Central Asia—developing governments’ capabilities to meet international standards in public sector accounting, financial, and sustainability reporting. The new version of the program, called PULSAR 2 and supported by the Financial Management Umbrella Program, kicked off in November 2025 and has built strong momentum into 2026. |

The session was anchored on a new The World Bank framework, detailed in From Paper to Practice: A Practical Guide to Formulating and Institutionalizing Long-Term Climate Strategies. The session was co-sponsored by SECO. |
