Israel was so dear to the Lord that He called them His “treasured possession” (Ex. 19:5). “Treasure” is a rich, fascinating image in Scripture, used for everything from everyday fatherly wisdom (Prov. 2:1–5) to the incalculable value of God’s kingdom (Matt. 13:44–46).
