Beautiful, bright and clear sound. Tastes like KFC chicken with a light sauce.
Lovely vintage sound, goes great with my '62 Telcaster.
Universal preamp and equalizer that I use in absolutely all projects. From funk to hip-hop.
A truly versatile plugin that is worth the money!

The UAD Neve 1073 Preamp & EQ Collection is a remarkable piece of audio software that stands out in the crowded market of digital plugins. Universally acclaimed for its faithful recreation of the classic Neve 1073 preamp and EQ, it offers an unparalleled level of warmth and depth to your recordings.

The first thing to note about the UAD Neve 1073 is its sound quality. The plugin does an exceptional job of emulating the rich, harmonic character and analog warmth that the original Neve 1073 is known for. Whether you're tracking vocals, guitars, or drums, this plugin adds a beautiful coloration that can make any source sound better.

The EQ section of the UAD Neve 1073 is another highlight. It offers a broad range of tonal shaping options, from subtle enhancements to more drastic changes. The high and low shelving EQs, along with the mid-band, provide a musical touch that can help any mix stand out.

The user interface is another strong point. It's intuitive and easy to use, even for those who are not familiar with the original hardware. The controls are straightforward, and the visual feedback is helpful in understanding how the plugin affects the sound.

In terms of performance, the UAD Neve 1073 is efficient and reliable. It runs smoothly on the UAD platform, and the DSP usage is reasonable considering the quality of the emulation.

The only potential downside is the price, which might be a bit steep for some users. However, considering the quality of the plugin and the sonic possibilities it offers, it's a worthy investment for any serious audio engineer or producer.

In conclusion, the UAD Neve 1073 Preamp & EQ Collection is a top-notch plugin that faithfully recreates the sound of one of the most revered preamps and EQs in history. It's a powerful tool that can add a unique character and warmth to your recordings, making it a must-have in any digital audio workstation.

I first tried the Neve 1073 years ago. One of my favorites.
The GUI is outdated. 15 years ago it was OK with the screen resolution, but not today. I wouldn't complain if the plug was $ 20, but it is expensive. So - it's not hard to program a newer GUI... Still 5 star - but fix the GUI.

I own 2 1073 eq and preamps and I have to say this is one of the few plugins that has been able to come close to the sound of my hardware. its ever so slight differences are only really noticeable when I sit and listen very critically. other than that I have zero problem recording thru this or mixing a record with it.

The original Neve 1073 preamp contained three gain ranges that each had a distinctive character. The highest range could add up to 80 dB of gain, which was enough to overdrive the channel into aggressive clipping.

Vintage Neve 1073 preamps sound amazing, but their limited f"Honorable MentionsThis is by no means an exhaustive list. There are dozens of emulations of 1073-style preamps and EQs.

It's worth noting that in a test run by Blue Mangoo recently ( -mangoo-s-take-on-a-compressor-shoot-out/p1) the MagicDeathEye seemed to have some fairly heavy aliasing artifacts, however I can't say that they're audible in my use of the plugin.

EQ1979 is a frequency-accurate model of the famous British module, the Neve 1073, credited by many for the sound of classic rock music. The Neve 1073 first appeared on the A88 console, and you can hear it on countless records of the era, from Queen to The Rolling Stones.

The Neve 1073 has several factors to thank for its success besides the creative mind of Rupert Neve. You can point to the earlier (1960s) evolution from valve-based to transistor-based technologies and then germanium to silicon transistors.

As with many vintage hardware units, some of the most-loved characteristics came as side effects of the design or happy accidents. In this case, input and output transformers, used for signal isolation and gain staging, introduced subtle harmonic saturation that became the core characteristic of the 1073 sound.

To mimic the intentional and unintentional magic of the 1073, EQ1979 features an input saturation stage ranging from subtle/smooth to asymmetric clipping. The input saturation stage boosts third and fifth harmonics while increasingly introducing full spectrum asymmetrical saturation.

1073 combines the functions of a microphone preamp and an equalizer. There are transformers in both the input and output stages of the preamp, which many would argue are the most crucial to the sound quality.

You can hear the openness and character of the Neve. What makes this plugin unique is its control over the preamp and the ability to work with the tonal character. The modeling of the EQ is remarkably faithful to its analog counterpart. With all the fantastic features added, it offers a broad palette of sound and character that separates this plugin from the rest.

The plugin sounds incredibly close to the original hardware and reacts to signal similarly, adding harmonic distortion and even rescuing any given sound source, regardless. IK Multimedia wanted to make this right and recreated it to detail the preamp behavior, saturation, and preamp/EQ interaction that preceded the reputation of this remarkable piece of gear.
