The valley which you all know as home is nestled in mountainous country atop a tall plateau, and is home to a population of around six hundred, drawn from the playable races and goblins. For as long as anyone can remember, this community has lived in peaceful isolation, protected from the dangers of the outside world by tall cliffs. Within the home valley are...

  • The Dwarven Forges - stone-built furnaces fire the industry of the dwarves, in the west of the valley. Here the metals and riches of the dwarves' mountain mines are turned into tools, trinkets and other works.
  • The Tower of Ancient Wisdom - a small self-sufficient but ramshackle community dedicated to exploring the magical arts
  • The Feygrove - an enchanted wood, home to elves and gnomes
  • Mother Maiva's cottage - a small home in the woods formerly owned by a wizard. A house of healing is being established there in her memory by Torvar the druid
  • The Mill - a water mill and its surrounding houses and workshops, home to humans, half-orcs and halflings
  • An apothecary, ran by two sisters
  • Bella's Landing - a small fishing community, popular with halflings
  • The Wildwood - an ancient forest inhabited by deer and boar, providing hunting grounds
  • The Fields - an expanse of farmlands and orchards in the east of the valley
  • Kazkan's Farm - a cattle farm tended by the old goblin Kazkan, and his daughter Rishaaq
  • The Stone Wastes - a barren windswept landscape of crags populated sparsely by hermits, mystics and those touched by wild magic
  • The central lake - fed by two rivers from the western mountains, the lake provides sailing and fishing grounds for the inhabitants of the valley as a whole
  • Falls of Ardun - the waters of the central lake run out through low hills and plunge to the plains below at these falls

    ...and finally...

  • The Lakeside Inn - the social hub of valley life, where tall tales are spun over tankards of ale.

I know a number of you are already coming up with character concepts, and that's fantastic - hopefully this map will help you find a place in the valley your characters can call home.

Sweet.  Question on behalf of those to whom it may be character (Paladin's and Clerics, at least) relevant - are there any temples or similar religious structures/organisations here abouts?

There absolutely can be, yes - we could put them more or less wherever we want on the map. So for example if we want shrines in the mountains or the forests, or a more traditional church or temple in the settled parts of the valley we can do that. I can always edit the map and update the original post. Probably best if people just tell me what they'd like to see.

I should add for others' benefit - please don't see this map as a contstraint, don't think "oh I'm a halfling so I guess I'll be from Bella's Landing...", your characters can be from wherever you want them to be within the valley. The map is a jumping-off place...

...as are the cliffs and falls but let's not do that.

An update!

I've added three new features to the map of the home valley:

1. The Tower of Ancient Wisdom - a ramshackle community between the Feygrove and the Dwarven Forges, devoted to the study of magic
2. An apothecary near The Mill ran by two sisters - they first showed up in "Friday Night at the Lakeside Inn"
3. Mother Maiva's Cottage - this is now being established as a centre for healing and study in her memory. Torvar the druid is the driving force behind this, as mentioned in "The Hunt for the Missing Adventurers"

I've updated the map to include Kazkan's cattle farm - in the north-east of the valley between "The Fields" and "The Stone Wastes"
