"Daaaaaaad..."
"What?" grumbled Kazkan the farmer, leaning out from the farmhouse kitchen door with a glass of apple wine in his hand.
"You're going to want to see this," his daughter replied, with an air of tired resignation. "They're up to something again."
"Pelor's light!" the old goblin exclaimed. "What in the gold-walker's name are they doing now?"
Out in the valley, in the late-evening twilight, a beam of light blazed forth from the forest to the south-east. It looked like some of the trees were on fire. The beam shot out to the east, slicing across the top of the tree canopy, then whipped round, painting a bright white spot onto the tower at Entatratashan. It lurched drunkenly over and pointed up into the sky to the west, before blazing straight up into the heavens.
The old goblin swigged back the last of his wine, put on a coat and marched out of the house.
"Nada - watch the farm. I'm going down to that inn to see what those daft idiots are doing, and give them a piece of my mind..."
