This weekend - 30th/31st March - is liable to be busy due to (a) mother's day and (b) the fact that I'm getting close to a deadline on some other D&D stuff, so I think perhaps no games this coming weekend.

Happy to run something the following weekend, the 6th/7th April, especially if we have any new players or characters who'd like to go exploring!

Sunday's group who went out to the mysterious stone doors in the low hills should be back in the next day or so, so it should be interesting to see what they have to say for themselves and whether it sheds any more light on what's out there in the world...

Yeah, J and I are busy for the next few weeks. We’re looking forward to hearing what treasures (or terrors) people find outside the valley whilst we’re gone! ;-)

I can do the weekend of the 6th/7th.  The 13th/14th weekend is looking less likely.

Clara will be doing night shifts on those first and second April weekends -- tricky but maybe not impossible if I can leave the boys with my mum. Itching for another adventure - but happy to be on standby to allow those who haven't got their boots bloody muddy yet.

Banjax Gromm carefully approached the cottage, for what had become a daily routine. Raising a powerful, muscle-bound arm, he gently rapped on the cottage's rickety, moss-speckled door. After a second gentle knock, he gave a deep sigh and called out  loudly but calmly, "Maiva, it's your little grey beetle,  are you home?"

Pausing, seemingly to regain composure he continued, "I need the ointment, Maiva. The pain gets something rotten without your balm." It was then that Banjax noticed the tiny leather pouch, hanging from the branch of a potted lavender tree by a steel pin with a head shaped like a beetle.

Banjax gritted his teeth, revealing elongated lower canines. Grabbing and opening the pouch, a small folded parchment dropped into his sizeable platinum-grey, battle scared hand. "Oaf! How could I have missed this?". Banjax scanned the sheet, his previously stolid expression shattered.

Around the cottage, birds and small animals dart for cover as a  bellowing cry of pain seemingly shakes the surrounding trees.

Introducing Banjax Gromm, half-orc warrior, village protector. Currently running to the Lakeside Inn, looking for answers, and quality lotions.

Hey folks - I can run a game this Saturday, April 6th. Once again, I'm happy to run for anywhere between two and five players - if you want to play comment below and decide between yourselves where you'd like to go.

Alright, so pending anyone not being able to make it or someone being pre-empted by a player who hasn't played yet, it looks provisionally like:

Rich Jackson (Sorceror)
Anne (Sorceror)
Me (Wizard)
Adam (Fighter)
Gillian (Ranger??)

on Saturday. Anyone else want to throw their Hat of Disguise into the Ring of Protection +1 ?

Well, Zardan can bring some buff Paladinry (meat-shieldery, if you must) and some (extremely) nominal healing to that line up.

If they can bear his disdain for all this maudlin simpering he's observed of late.

And subject to DM approval, ofc.  Which is itself dependant on my finalising a character sheet and submitting it to Ed..

OK Gillian hasn't corrected my guess about her being a ranger, so unless she's just Being Mysterious about being a druid we are running with no healers. This is not necessarily a problem, but it means that anyone who goes down is staying down until the fight is either won, or we're all dead.

Oh yes, sorry, missed that line.

Alright, so between a Ranger and my owl familiar we should have reasonable scouting capabilities, and we've got plenty of magical power and a good offense. But we should still be careful because we won't have the safety net that healing provides.

Hey everyone - let's use this thread for scheduling discussions :)

I have been checking, and the earliest date I can next run a game is Sunday May 12th (we already have plans for the bank holiday weekend).

T has created a character that he wants to play, this will be his first time playing D&D and I'd like to let him play on the 12th. So please be aware, if you want to play on the 12th, you'll be playing D&D with an 8 year old newbie (but we've all got to start somewhere!)

So far we have the following players/characters lined up:

Adam (Bran, human fighter)
Anne (Birel, half-elf sorcerer)
Krissy (Aila, wood elf Paladin)
T (Newt, dragonborn ranger)
Possibly Mark (with a new character)

Mark, did you introduce or share your new character? I can't remember, sorry.

Also, I think the decision had been made to go explore the six stone crags and the lake, which could be seen from Kazkan's farm. Is that right?

Torvar collected a selection of valuable things from the fallen adventurers, the things that stood out were the little figures which were clearly of sentimental value.

He threw a couple of other bits that looked like important possessions in his sack which is now located at the mini base be has been setting up.

I'm sure there was a book in there somewhere, I think I put it on a shelf for anyone of the adventurers to notice.

And then to switch it on again as we're about to leave the next

I'm also presuming that I'll have discussed what I saw, and why I want
to go, to whoever else is coming along to investigate the things that
we saw.

And I want to grab some kind of lodestone/navigating device. The one we
were using at Kazkan's farm sounded pretty unweildy, so something
slightly more portable if a bit less accurate is fine. I'm willing to
leave my battleaxe behind if I need the weight limit to carry it.

OK I know we have to wait for the expedition to get back (assuming they do... but, metagaming, you're not going to TPK your 8-year-old in his first ever session. You're just not) but did I observe anything interesting from the heights of Kazkan's farm?

And Mark - can you remember which spells were in Maiva's spellbook?

Hey folks - this weekend is chocka-block, but I can run a game on Saturday 8th June, if people are interested?

Let me know if you'd like to play, and where you might like to explore.

Don't forget to check out "Surveying the plains from Kazkan's farm" https://groups.google.com/forum/m/#!topic/thevalleyrpg/Fsz-7u1Fb8c and "Dances with Elves" https://groups.google.com/forum/m/#!topic/thevalleyrpg/i4WOZO_0yQ0 if you're not up to speed with what's been happening lately.

Also, check out the wiki at https://thevalley.boreworms.com/wiki/Main_Page where players have been writing up what we know about the world so far! Contact me or Adam if you'd like an account :)

I would be available for the next Saturday game but have had two goes now so if other people who haven't had a chance yet/recently want a turn first that seems fairer.

Anne.

Take a look at "Dances with Elves" for a round-up of what happened last time: https://groups.google.com/forum/m/#!topic/thevalleyrpg/i4WOZO_0yQ0

I'm also going to put together a timeline on the wiki, I think that'll help us all keep track of things.

So far we have Rory (Tagariel), Anne (Birel) and Gillian (Taika) as possible adventurers on Saturday. I think Krissy (Aila) is interested as well, any thoughts on what you all might like to do, or where you might like to go?

Hi folks - I have posted a timeline up on the wiki summarising what the adventurers have learnt about the history of the world, as well as a summary of the various parties' travels to date, with links back to the key posts on this group. It's at https://thevalley.boreworms.com/wiki/World_Timeline - I hope people find it useful!

OK if I remember correctly - and I may not do - no-one has so far activated the Temple of Power, and then gone to Entatratashan to see what it does when it has power.

The other possibility is to go to Entatratadesh and see what's there. It's supposedly only about a day away from Entatratashan so we could potentially do both.

Thoughts?

If people are going back to Entatratashan, it might be worth gathering up "bolts" to take to the secret room described at https://groups.google.com/forum/m/#!topic/thevalleyrpg/0FI4nEcJ730

As told by Sariel, the magical mechanism in the floor of Entatratashan's secret room had sockets for six bolts, coloured red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple.

Yellow, green and purple bolts were already in the mechanism and were left behind by the first band of explorers.

Blue bolts have since been found in the Temple of Healing (in the heads of the blue statues) and in the Temple of Power (in the remote workstation).

Green bolts have been found in the "workshop" room at the Temple of Healing, next to a magical green energy-sword on a workbench (who has that sword now, anyway?)

Red bolts have been found in the Temple of Power, in spider nests.

So far, nobody has found an orange bolt, but it's the only one of the six colours you don't yet have.

Alright, then here's the plan:

1.) Gather up any spare bolts that we've already brought back (red?)
2.) Go to Temple of Power, activate generator, collect red bolt if need be
3.) Go to Temple of Healing, retrieve blue bolt (Gillian's ranger may be able to make use of the energy sword, depending on stats?)
4.) Go to Entatratadesh, look for orange bolt
5.) If successful, go to Entatratashan and activate the secret room mechanism
6.) ???
7.) Profit

Any objections, say now or this is what we're going with :D

Rory - the reason I mentioned those items was because other than the bolts at Entatratashan, which were left behind, the other bolts were taken by adventurers.

I know the party Tagariel was in took three red bolts from the Temple of Power, but I'm not sure what happened to the blue and green ones from the Temple of Healing. Probably one of Aila, Torvar or Sariel will know.

(aside, I'll check with those players and check if they're alright to let you use them)

Hmm - I thought people had said they'd left the bolts where they were, which is why we couldn't do Detect Magic on them.

I cast Detect Magic! :D

Let me know what the results are and I'll add them to the wiki.

Hey folks - last call for tomorrow's game, we've got one spot left if anyone wants it, otherwise we'll go ahead with four players.

So far in the party we have...

- Aila, an elf paladin
- Birel, a half-elf storm sorcerer
- Tagariel, an elf wizard
- Taika, a human ranger

This is a journey to nearby Builder towers, including:

- A trip to Entatratashan, to see if it's doing anything interesting now the power's back on.
- A trip to "Entatratradesh", which Queen Merielle of Klippika described as "a rift in the ground haunted by ghosts and old machines", a day's walk west of Entatratashan.

ATTENTION VALLEY EXPLORERS!

I hate having to say this, but work has wiped me out this week. I have about two-thirds of a session outline in my head and a lot of "winging it" floating about but if we could put back the Entatratashan/Entatratradesh session until next weekend - ideally the 15th - I can make a better job of it.

Gillian, Rory and Anne - are you free to play on the 15th?

I had a message from Gillian saying she'd no longer to be able to make it this weekend, so if nobody objects, we could have Adam, Anne, Krissy, Evie and T as an adventuring party?

That would give us
- one ranger

- one fighter
- one warlock
- one sorcerer
- one paladin

K's paladin has "spare the dying" but let's hope it doesn't come to that. Not sure who might have medicine skills? A cleric might have been useful but I'm sure we'll manage ok if we take care :)

We'll just have to try and play smart I guess!

Paladins don't usually get cantrips btw, though if anyone has a healer's kit they can take an action to stabilise a dying character automatically.

You might need to have us find some loot if we're going to be buying consumables though ;)

Hey folks - I've had confirmation back from Rory that he can join us on Wednesday evening, to finish off what we started on the 15th. I'd like to suggest a 7pm start, as this should give us time to get home from work and maybe grab a bite to eat before heading over. I think if we aimed to be done by 10pm we'd still have time to see where things go and get to a point where there would be some interesting stories to bring back to the Lakeside Inn.

See you all Wednesday!

Hey folks -

Scheduling is going to be... difficult for a little while. The next few weeks we're busy due to various birthdays and visiting family, and then we're on holiday. By my reckoning, the next time I can run a game will be Saturday August 31st. Yikes.

Between now and then, I'd love to hear from those of you who either haven't finished character sheets, or have character sheets but haven't yet played. It would be great to get some of you in on the next few adventures.

If people want to do another "Kazkan's Farm" style in-character forum post, we can do that too.

Generally speaking, have a think about where your characters might want to explore, there's still a lot to explore out there. Any questions, reply to this forum post/email.

Thanks everyone!

Places to go, things to do!

Krissy and I are back from our summer holidays which means we should be able to start up The Valley again. Thank you for all being patient in the interim.

We've now got some player characters at level 2 - see https://groups.google.com/forum/m/#!topic/thevalleyrpg/rY1CzYycPKg - and some others who aren't far off! There's still lots to explore, and I know there are some of you who have characters ready to go but haven't yet played - I'd love to get new players round the table so don't be shy!

As well as the updates on this board / mailing list, there's now a wiki set up by Adam where players have been recording details about the world that they've discovered on their travels. Take a look at https://thevalley.boreworms.com/wiki/Main_Page to read more.

This is a player-driven story, so I'm looking to you all to tell me where you want to go next and what you want to do. This is an ever-changing world where what one party do affects what other parties will see later on in later games. Thanks to the group that made contact with Queen Merielle at Klippika there are now elven spies and soldiers in the landscape trying to learn more about the people of The Valley. The group who activated the Temple of Power spurred the gnomes of Riverglade into studying a long-forgotten clifftop ruin and its ancient artefacts. *Something* guards a partially collapsed underground tunnel leading to what the elves call Entatratradesh, another ancient ruin deep below the earth, haunted by shadowy shapes that have only been glimpsed from the tops of sinkholes and chasms. Somewhere out there on the other end of a teleport gate, an icy mountain landscape waits to be explored.

And of course - who were the Builders? And what happened to them?

Out there in the world are answers, adventure and maybe even a little treasure! Who's going to venture out of the valley to see? If you want to play in the next game, comment here, join an adventuring party and set a date. I'll do the rest :)

ok folks - I've had offline enquiries from Kelly, Liz and Jacquie. The next game will be Sunday September 15th, I don't yet know where people are planning on going or what they're planning on doing.

As a reminder, there is a summary of what has happened so far at https://thevalley.boreworms.com/wiki/World_Timeline with links to posts for all of the adventures so far. The wiki also has posts about the places and objects discovered in the world to date.

If people are stuck for ideas, I can make some suggestions but I'd rather these came from the players.

So, that's Sunday 15th, we currently have three players:

- Kelly
- Liz
- Jacquie

If anyone else wants to join in this session, let me know. This thread can be used for adventure planning. I'm happy to run for up to 5 players.
