The Unique Geek listserv guidelines

Howdy! THE UNIQUE GEEK listserv is an extension of THE UNIQUE GEEKwebsite and is intended for discussions on all things geek, such as: Technology, Comic Books, Movies, SciFi, Fantasy, TV, Star Wars, etc.

As you probably already know, we've got a fantastic group of geeks on this listserv.  Some of us have known each other for years, while some are new to the group.  We each have our own opinions and we're not afraid to voice them.  We don't always agree which makes things more interesting and provides for some healthy debates.  As an admin on this listserv, I sincerely appreciate that the more volatile debates quickly resolve themselves and we continue to move forward.  Thank you for that.

We're not really about rules here, but below you’ll find some suggested "best practices."  These are not rules or policies, just suggestions which may help ensure everyone enjoys their time here at THE UNIQUE GEEK.

• Don't take anything you read on this listserv personal. We're a bunch of geeks who like to tease each other. That's all it is, friendly ribbing. If you can't stand good-natured teasing, this isn't the place for you.
• Don't make any threads personal. Kidding around and healthy debates are fine. Crossing the line into personal attacks or combative arguments won't benefit anyone.
• If someone disagrees with your opinion, so be it. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Having people with diverse opinions keeps this listserv lively.
• When sharing your thoughts on a subject, consider saying, "In my opinion...", rather than stating information as fact. This isn't a "must do", just a suggestion. It might be accepted better by your fellow posters.
• If you feel a thread is becoming personal, do one of the following. A) Walk away, it's not worth the headache, B) Contact a board admin, or C) Within the thread, say you feel it's becoming personal and you'd rather stay on the subject matter of the thread.
• Self-promotion is perfectly fine, but in moderation. Please keep self-promotion topics within their own threads, rather than hijacking someone else’s thread.
• Most importantly, have fun and don't get in the way of others having fun.
