Oh, I'm sure they'll totally screw it up. That's almost a given--
particularly with the screenwriter (Akiva Goldsman) they're using.
Yuck.
I don't see them needing 24 hours of programming to cover *each* of
the books-- the first one, in particular, could be covered easily in a
"movie-of-the-week," 2-hr format, I think. There's just not a lot to
it. The second one is not much longer, really, in terms of stuff that
happens. Same with volume 6.
Meanwhile, THE WASTE LANDS seems to me ideal for a single, 2.5-hour
big-time feature film. And WIZARD AND GLASS... gosh, you could do
that one any number of ways. That's probably where most of the "TV
series" stuff will be coming from-- the same way Marvel's done it.
But the property is one of my favorites, too. I like it because I
really enjoy King's writing, but I don't like horror-- so this series
was perfect for me: King's fantasy/post-apocalyptic (and pre-
apocalyptic!) magnum opus. A scarier Lord of the Rings. With
gunfighters.
I don't know if I've mentioned it here before; somehow, I think I
might have, since I rarely miss an opportunity to drop a link for
myself. :-) Here's my review of the whole series:

But what's noteworthy to me is this: Doing a movie series and TV
series concurrently, and using (some of) the same actors in both, just
seems... impossible?... to me. Contract issues, etc. And what if
the TV series gets terrible ratings and gets cancelled in the first
year, while there are still two more movies left to go? Would they
just scrub the movies in that case? (Reminds me of our conversation
about Marvel movies recently!) Or would they scrub the series and
keep doing the movies??
But it's certainly an interesting idea. And I'll certainly watch
(both).
