History of your character:
Born and bread in The Moonwood, Keohnis was raised in the ways of the
mystical nature with the influence from the eventful history of The
Silver Marches. Many tales were told and many deeds were praised,
Keohnis was brought up to view life in a romantic and idealistic
perspective.
Keohnis was descended from a bloodline of Moon Elf, his father,
Vindur, who behaves slightly distanced from those who are none elven,
he is a Priest of Solonor Thelandira and a defender of their druids.
Keohnis's mother, Feng, also a follower of Solonor Thelandira and a
ranger of the woods. She is known and popular among the town folks at
Quaervarr, and is in good terms with the local followers of Silvanus.
The family has been living in a hidden community of Moon Elves in the
woods, although Keohnis would not reveal much information about his
home, but some experienced rangers believe the old Moonwood is capable
of hiding an elven city inside, and since the Moon Elves of the woods
are not know to have much trading outside, we could presume they live
a self sufficient life style, free from the known political parties,
making it quite a heaven. Beside its members, only a few Wood Elf
rangers are aware of its where about. They have their own secretive
culture of communication in sign language, secret tracks and signals.
If you engage a casual conversation with Keohnis, he would tell you
long stories of the events taken place in the forest. He believes the
trees tell endless stories of the old, from their patterns on the
barks, the characters of their roots and the direction of their
growth, all suggest their history and personalities. And if you look
carefully, you will find out even the smallest event from the past and
the picture of the world it once was. And how he would share his
enjoyment watching the local wolves and bears like he would talk about
his friends, and how he admires the strategic positioning of the hawks
like a tactician. Otherwise Keohnis has a sensitive ear to the elven
song, he especially like a female voice.
But not all in the wood welcome the presence of the elves. One of the
oldest inhabitant, Fargonlia, a magical ancient tiger, as old as the
forest, stands four foot in height, and twelve foot in length, covered
with long fluffy hair. Her steps are usually slow and lazy, as she
walks her massive body swing from left to right, and from right to
left, from it, you could get an impression of its overwhelming weight,
and how powerful her muscles are to maintain her graceful movement.
When Keohnis was small, he met Fargonlia the first time, astonished by
her appearance, Keohnis naively approached. Fargonlia then roared at
Keohnis and sent fear though his body, which made him lost his balance
and fallen into the pond nearby. Keohnis lost his pride and have
decided to dislike Fargonlia ever since. As a boyish charachter,
throughout the years, whenever he sees the ancient tiger, he would
taunt at her and make all kinds of gestures, endlessly trying to
regain some pride.
The peaceful days of living a life in the woods has later taken a more
constructive turn, as Keohnis was becoming more mature, he began his
training under his mother's wing, from the pattern of the woods, the
movements from the outsiders, getting to know the local inhalants,
knowing the sighs of other rangers, and even the to patrol to
Silverymoon, Keohnis begun to learn the ways of nature under Feng.
But because of his close relationship with his mother, and the close
community of his people in The Moonwoods, he has been living in an
environment that does not require him to grown up or to take
responsibilities. As he is becoming a young adult, his parents have
been increasingly concerned about his dependent character, and have
planed to send him away to taste an independent life.
Wherever you meet him away from The Moonwood, he is settling with his
new independent life style.
Ranger style
Having been accompanying his marksman mother travelling the local
surroundings, his role has been in supporting and assisting her. And
from the play fights among other elves of his age, his childish (or
naughty) character showed he enjoys using the element of surprise and
melee contact, and would likely to develop in this direction for his
training to face a real foe in the future.
Since the start of Keohnis's Ranger training, his has begun to learn
to communicate and command animals. His training partner was an old
bear from a Angharradh Druid family, and its litter of new born pups
has promised Keohnis a bear friend to be bounded with.
The Druid circle has assigned a small baby male bear to be looked
after and bounded with Keohnis. When they first met, the small bear
was rumbling around through a thick and colourful flowered and glassed
field, eventually, the two contacted, and the sunset shined from
behind the bear, made a golden glow surrounding the small bear. And so
Keohnis named it, "Arsal", which translates to "Golden Honey".
Feng - Keohnis's mother [/b[
Feng, the female often dressed in a short dark cape, weathered and
silent, appears no more than just an ordinary Moon Elf from the
woods.
Who she really is goes deeper than on the surface, her none emotional
expression, claim aura reflect her wisdom and skill in being a stealth
specialist.
The meaning of stealth typically means, hidden and unseen, but Feng's
skill shows another layer of it. Stealth, could also mean being
undetectable or unpredictable.
Before Keohnis was born, Feng got herself involved in a situation,
guarding the life of an Elven Noble merchant from Silverymoon (She
volunteered her self to protect a caravan that transport medication
into Quaervarr that the Merchant Guild was against). She defeated
thirteen full armed attackers with her techniques in close quarter
combat with a single dagger, protected the life of the head merchant.
>From which has shown her understanding in anatomy, weight and force.
Her speed in combat is again, spoken in a very different way as we see
the speed being described as a weapon from one point travelling to
another. To Feng, the way she plays speed, meaning that, a move or a
strike land before the opponent realise or able to react.
On top of that, her emotionless aura reinforced her advantage, making
her unpredictable in mind and body. From her impressive skill in
combat and saving the merchant life, the merchant given her his family
rapier as a token of thanks, sadly, he was eventually assassinated.
Feng is a lady of few words, though show much love and care for
Keohnis, their conversations are mostly done in a teaching manner, and
her feelings are usually expressed in affections and facial
expressions, instead of words.
Player's note
I have been trying to develop ideas and stories for an Elven (Moon)
Ranger since the start of Neverwinter Nights I. Originally, the Elven
Ranger was named, Thrar Feivrine, a name created using the in game
random naming engine. I went mad into writing his story about that he
was brought up by his parents, who in truth were the assassins of his
real blood parents but have adopted him since babe. They loved him as
their own child and were forbidden to tell of their history and past
events, so they have sent Thrar away on a journey to find out by
himself. I have ended the journey at the point where Thrar has joined
a Ranger pack named "Rangers of the Thirteen", and their mission was
to capture a pair of assassins who held important political secrets
that could change an important political war, and of course, the pair
of assassin were Thrar's parents, which has placed Thrar questioning a
mix of love, brotherhood, bloodline, honour, loyalty for friends,
loyalty to family and so on.
I have stooped the writing as it was too confusing.
And when Neverwinter Nights 2 was released, I renamed Thrar to Thrar
Amastana for a few months, and have rewritten an entire new background
and history from scratch into a simple and more cheerful character.
Looking back, from all that I have learnt about elves, their culture
and history from writing about Thrar, I have came up with a more
thoughtful name for my Elven Ranger, thus Keohnis Hawksong was
created, which translated as, "Earth Dawn, or Earth Child". And I have
taken the clan name of Hawksong, as it is a morden Moon Elven clan
descended from Evermet.
I am not somebody who would read all sorts of fantasy books, but I
enjoy imagining and writing stories for my characters, and from it, I
would do my research and learn about Forgotten Realms.
The Frontier
The raise of the Kerack Tre'zul's forces has taken away all that peace
one could have, since the expansion of the Lich's power becomes
greater, the forest of Moonwood no longer "speaks" in the same
language, the earth changed it's pattern, and the animals became
scared and defensive, losing trust even to their friends. The Moodwood
no longer provides the protection and tranquility for its inhabitants.
Evil vines were found growing in occasion, the view of the rich green
forest filled with soft white mist, while tender sun rays come through
the tree branches, slowly replaced with a grey sky and the endless
sound of fallen branches crackling.
Further more, The Coldwood to the north west were outrun by orcish
tribes and undead armies, which pushed the animals and beasts to
invade Moodwood, competing for grounds and resources with the local
animals.
The woods became increasingly hostile, Keohnis has taken a more
serious role under his mother's wing, defend the odds and sorts and
preventing their secret homes being discovered. But the Lich's forces
continued to grown, undeads and demons slowly became a common sight.
In the past, the local rangers could travel comfortably with a simple
bow, a long rope and a dagger, but since the influence from the evil,
all rangers are to armed with martial weapons, even the greatsword
became popular among the simple rangers, showing the dire changes of
the environment.
The tension of the growing evil has been brewing in the air,
eventually; The Moonwood joined the forces of The Silver Marches
Alliance, united to resist the expansion of the Lich's army.
However, when the reign of terror became anew, it expends and
suppressed all that stood in its path. Even the some of the elven
druids became corrupted and betrayed their friends in the face of
Kerack Tre'zul's army. Keohnis's father, Vindur, as well as all druids
of the Seldarine; stood up against the dark army in a large encounter
one day, but was heavily injured as a result. Fortunately, the family
of three reunited on the battle field, with the aid of their allies,
they managed to escape in to the west, and eventually taken refuge on
the Sword Coast.
In the following years, Keohnis, Vindur, Feng and their elven clan
intergraded with the mix of cultures and costumes of different races
on the Sword Coast, united by the Sword Coast Alliance, together they
aimed to defend against their common foe. During this period, Vindur
has spent most of his time recovering from his injuries, Keohnis
naturally learnt to be more matured and responsible. At the back of
his mind, he felt undignified from the lost of his home, together with
all the sore memories of war which sometimes still send shivers though
his spine; Keohnis's idealistic perspective to see the world became
slightly grey, he is now an elf with only but a few words, where
commotions, blood splits and even deaths happens around him became the
norm, the only comforts form these memories were the company and love
from his parents, some animal friends, as well as his fortunate which
saved him though some of these fatal situations.
In 1394 - In battle at The High Forest against the Lich, Vindur
claimed to have fully recovered from his injures, prided himself to be
a protector of his people, and encouraged his unit forward bravely.
During the thick of battle, Vindur was separated from Keohnis and
Feng, and as the dark army was suppressing further on the alliance,
Feng foresee the their defeat. Thinking for the safty of her family,
she sent Keohnis to the Seed-Ship, and if she had made it out from the
battlefield in founding Vindur, she would meet Keohnis on the other
side of the new lands. And so she disappeared in to the mist of
battle.
Keohnis boarded the Seed-Ship and offered aid and his survival skill,
waiting for his people, his family to be reunited on the distant
lands.
