Claire was admitted to nationwide Children’s again today.  She had been doing so well since the surgery, BP was coming down (and still is) and she was just all around feeling better.  However, she took her last dose of steroids Saturday evening.  By this morning she had fever and a very fast heart rate (in the 170’s).  Kerri and Pat took her to Columbus after talking to the doctor at Coldwater ER.  They did a kidney ultrasound, and told Kerri & Pat they believe she has Post-emboization syndrome.  We’re not sure at this point what all of this means, but she has been admitted and is getting IV fluids.  Hope to find out more by tomorrow.  In the meantime, please continue your prayers.  She still faces the full body MRA in the near future, and she just doesn’t want to be at the hospital anymore.

Thanks for the prayers.  They need them right now!

Good news! Claire was released from the hospital again this evening and is glad to be back home!  They decided after consulting with another doctor at Cincinnati Childrens that she needs to be on steroids for another 2 weeks.  They said she’s been thru a lot and there is quite possibly still inflammation in the kidney from the embolization.  They also are treating her for ‘possible’ pneumonia.  Her xray showed something but wasn’t conclusive.  They want to be proactive and treat with antibiotics, as pneumonia could cause a fast heart rate also.  Her fever is gone and the heart rate has come down – still too high but much better.  However, her BP is definitely dropping, so we’re hopeful the procedure worked!  They have already reduced the dosage of one of her BP meds and hope to eliminate it completely, eventually.  The date for the MRA has still not been scheduled.  However, after talking to the doctors again, it sounds like they will not do a full body MRA after all.  The doctor said to get good pictures of all the arteries, Claire would have to be sedated for too long a time.  They are now talking about starting with the carotid arteries and brain.  There was mention made of the abdominal arteries also, but even that might take too long.  I wish they could do all of this at one time, but if it’s not safe for Claire, we don’t want that either.  For now, we’re just glad that she’s back home!

Thanks again for your continued prayers!

Karen
