Hi everyone,

Our orchestral director is interested in making it snow above his wind
ensemble for a holiday-themed piece this year.

Anyone have experience with snow fluid (like the LeMaitre Arctic Snow
mixture) reacting badly with woodwind key pads and the like?

Thanks!

Hi Joe,

No direct experience with snow fluid and woodwinds, however, even though the fluid says that it's "no-residue" formula, I usually find there's a residue afterwards. Also, generally speaking my experience has been that musicians aren't hot on the idea of liquids falling onto their instruments... You may want to check with them before you incur their wrath.

Does your director know how loud these machines are? Can you go with a paper or plastic snow effect with a tumbler or snow bag?

Just some thoughts.

I wouldn't be concerned about the fluid, it depends on the brand but most modern snow machines leave something more like a fine powder than anything sticky or that's going to cause problems.

I would be concerned about the noise, even the quietest snow machines are awfully loud for an acoustic concert.
