I have apparently been auto-unsubscribed from the old list. What
happened to that supposed upgrade?

Anyhoo....

We're looking at getting some LED Cycs.

In our price range are the Altman Spectra Cyc 100 RGBA units, versus
the Chauvet 640-FC RGBWA.

Any experience and/or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I like the SpectraCycs a lot. A *whole* lot.

I also like the Chroma-Q Colorforce, but the dimming is smoother on the
Altmans. I'm betting the Spectra Cyc is also smoother than the dimming
on the Chauvet -- and that's pretty important on a backdrop.On 9/2/2014

Are you locked in to a mounting distance from drop or can you get 5 to
8' from it, and well above the top? I don't know if you are looking
at the 50 or the 200, but we have been very pleased with the PL1 cyc
and at under $1000, not bad.

I honestly don't know how you can compare and select without a side by
side in your space.

Cyc position is more or less locked in. Pipe distance is 4'8 from cyc.

I'm trying to get a shootout, but were somewhat time and location restricted.

I don't know how the spectra cyc 50 compares with the PL1 cyc but
you're definitely going to want closer spacing than what either cut
sheet suggests to get it even near top. I also don't know how the
spectra cyc blends at top so don't know how high and/or what
combination of diffusion will work. The PL 1 is 3 times the wattage
of the 50 if that indicative of the output, and not 50% higher cost if
my data is correct.

We had a shootout with the PL1 and the Altman 200w Spectra Cycs,
Spectras blew them away. Dimming curve, no diffusion needed, color
saturation. I would be interested to see the 100w versions

Much the same, but without the wide-angle coverage.

Seems a little lop sided if one for one since the Spectra Cyc 200 is
more than twice the cost. Maybe if you did 2 against one - and still
less expensive - it would have been different.
