A Royale Guide to the Holiday Season
Plenty of news and notes relating to the holidays and your favorite corner tavern.
We are closed, for certain, on Christmas Eve, Saturday, December 24; and likely on Christmas, Sunday, December 25. Also, we’ll be closed on New Year’s Day, Sunday, January 1.
We now have the fire pit operating all the time now that it is natural gas powered. All of the instant heat and none of the camp fire smell.
For Thanksgiving, we will open at 8 p.m. for your drinking pleasure. We’ll also offer old-school turkey sandwiches, for anyone who’s eaten too early in the day, got stuck working some bogus pre-Black Friday gig, or simply can’t get enough turkey. We’ll see you this Thursday, then? Especially since DJ Karabell will be playing young people’s music.
Planning ahead? New Year’s Eve will feature a special Speakeasy feel, on Saturday, December 31. With a big shout-out to the Missouri Historical Society, we’ll highlight Prohibition-era cocktails along with the DJ stylings of Pokey LaFarge, who’ll be working some vintage gear for the evening. Advance tickets are available to members of Mo History before anyone else; inquire at the bar about how to secure your own.
There are lots of Big Bar Nights upcoming, and we’ve got DJs for quite a few of them. There are also a couple of special spins on the way:
Friday, 11/24: Thomas Crone of KDHX’s Silver Tray
Saturday, 11/25: Ryan Snowden
Saturday, 12/17: The St. Louis Shuffle with Matt Harnish, featuring a listening party for the soon-to-be-released music from the Retros and Dear John
Wednesday, 12/21: Roy Kasten and John Wendland’s Holiday Pops Concert
… among many other events.
A bunch of our current and recently-past DJs are also taking part in the Rock n Roll Craft Show 8, held this weekend at the Third Degree Glass Factory:
Friday...
12 - Jim Utz (from Vintage Vinyl)
4 - Thomas Crone (of KDHX’s Silver Tray)
Saturday...
11 - Steve Smith (from The Royale)
12 - The Decent Boys (Dale Fisher & Tom Lampe)
1 - Chris Bay (from KDHX's Gold Soundz)
2 - Chris Lucas
Sunday...
12 - Scott Allen (from 3 Minute Record)
We’ll see you out-and-about for sure, and will see you at the shop soon enough. Do drop in and say ‘hello,’ why doncha?
And, as always, keep up with us via Facebook and Twitter.
