There’s a variety pack of news and edutainment to share with you this month. So let’s get right into the good stuff. As always, feel free to befriend us on Facebook, or follow us on Twitter, for daily updates on specials and spontaneous celebrations.

New Menu/Patio Open

After a couple months of testing and refining, The Royale’s promised menu overhaul has taken place, with the results showing a positive reaction to the new (and some reintroduced) items on the menu. Of course, we’ll continue to rotate daily and seasonal specials into the mix, as well. You can find details on the new offerings via The Royale’s website: theroyale.com.

We should also note that The Royale’s biergarten is open for business and our patio’s been jamming during the first few weeks of spring. With weekends already showing a bit of a wait during prime-time hours, consider joining us for dinner or drinks on the patio during the week. Let us not forget to mention that the washer pits are back, if played on a short-course; this past Saturday afternoon, the discs were flying.

Beer Showcase Tuesdays

Following are some notes from one of our two Tuesday beertenders, John Fausz:

April 12- Urban Chestnut release party-- Former A-B whiz kids have done wonders at the city's newest craft brewery, and now you won"t have to hoof it to Midtown to enjoy their work. The brewers will be in house as we pour their two flagship beers: the silky-smooth Winged Nut, brewed with milled chestnuts and the quenching unfiltered Zwickel lager. Come by early to meet the guys and per chance catch some special tastes. (http://urbanchestnut.com/blog/--- official press release is below)

April 19- Quad madness! John Fausz, apprentice beertender and professional cynic forecasts one last snowfall this Spring, so we're going to give rich, dark beers one more shot at the spotlight. Belgian quadrupels are notoriously malty and boozy, and overflow with spice and dark fruit flavors, yet are effervescent enough to delight even during patio sessions in the sunshine.

April 26- Adjuncts-- Reinheitsgebot be damned! Sometimes barley, hops, yeast and water just ain't enough. Adjuncts are beers that include more than just the basics: rye, rice, spices, honey, fruit... the sky's the limit. Look for a lineup of fun, funky brews perfect for springtime.

Urban Chestnut Beers Coming on April 12

Urban Chestnut Brewing Company (UCBC), a self-professed unconventional-minded yet tradition-oriented brewer of craft beer, which opened its taste room in late January, has finally (after a whopping two-plus months) begun distributing draught beer to bars and restaurants in the St. Louis area (MO only for now).

We'll be celebrating the local release of UCBC's flagship beers with the brewers themselves on Tuesday, April 12th as we tap Zwickel and Winged Nut, two beers that represent this newest St. Louis brewery's philosophy of "Beer Divergency". The Zwickel is a quenching and balanced unfiltered lager brewed in the tradition of brewmaster Florian Kuplent's native Bavaria. Winged Nut, on the flip side, represents the brewery's adventurous spirit: malty, yeasty, and brewed with milled chestnuts, this beer provides a sumptuousness that is hard to categorize but easy to imbibe.

The brewers will be on hand to converse about their labors of love, sign autographs, and maybe provide a few tastes of other selections you'll just have to hoof it to Midtown to enjoy otherwise.

Come early, stay late, and welcome the Urban Chestnut to South City!

Visit the brewery's website for more information about their beers and their unique philosophy:http://urbanchestnut.com/home

It’s Race Time! (Almost!)

The Royale’s biggest party of the year - and the only time you’ll ever pay a cover! - is coming up in May, as the Kentucky Derby Party is set for Saturday, May 7. After the all the action’s done, at roughly 5:30, The Royale returns to something like normalcy, though our wagering fans usually take a few hours to fully disperse. Come enjoy one of America’s finest sporting events with us, at the party that essentially kicked off The Royale’s reputation as a theme party destination. The official release follows:

Ladies, procure your finest Derby hat and spring dresses. Gentlemen, get your seersucker suits pressed and your hats boxed. It is time to cheer on the ponies at the 6th Annual Royale Kentucky Derby Party on Saturday, May 7th. We have a contest for best male and female hat as well as best dressed race jockey. Proper Derby dress code will be enforced.

Miss Jubilee & the Humdingers will be performing the ragtime jump blues on the courtyard. Mint Juleps and featured cocktails will be available at an additional satellite bar in order to keep the cheer flowing and a special food menu to quell the peckish.

Young grade school scholars Tom and Molly Stein will be selling 50/50 chances on horses benefiting the Cabrini school.

A limited number of advance $6 tickets(2 per person) will be available on April 22nd at the Royale, and there will be allotted tickets available on the day of the race.

The party starts at 2pm with music starting at 3:30. Post time at 5:04.
