Enjoy and pass along...
It’s the final month of the year, meaning some big nights for the bar and restaurant community, with good crowds expected over the holidays, including our still-in-construction Futurist Party on NYE. We’ll tell you here about some special holiday hours, as well as some new things coming in January of 2011. Along with some fun odds-and-ends relating to St. Louis best’ neighborhood bar.
HOLIDAY HOURS
We will be closed for Christmas Eve, Friday, December 24. We will be open on Christmas, with limited night hours. After spending mucho time with the family, consider stopping by The Royale for holiday cheer and the musical stylings of KDHX’s Thomas Crone, who’ll be spinning after our 8 p.m. opening. Obviously, we’ll also be open for New Year’s Eve, with a special Party of the Future, celebrating the St. Louis of today and tomorrow. We’ll add lots of details about this party to our Facebook page and Twitter feed, so consider adding yourself as a contact on either. All other normal hours apply, so we hope to see you between now and the end of the year.
NEW MENUS
We’d love to give you some hints, but we’ll just ask you to be patient as we revamp our food menu, with several popular standbys remaining, alongside some interesting new items. All will be revealed on our website in January. As always, we’re adding and subtracting seasonal beers and we’ll occasionally drop a new cocktail into the standing mix, so check on those, as well. Best of doing that? Keep reading...
COCKTAIL MUSEUM
Staff mixologist Robert Griffin curates the weekly Cocktail Museum, held every Sunday evening from 9 p.m.-midnight. Here’s what he has to say about the Museum this month, including last night’s table-setter:
12/5 Year in Review I
I've picked over the last years' menus and pulled the 24 most successful or interesting drinks and will reprise them in a three part series. Missed the Zombie or Missionary's Downfall? Here's your second chance. On this particular evening we'll present the Morning Glory Fizz, Ford Cocktail, Royal Bermuda Yacht Club, Vieux Carre, The Last Word, Don the Beachcomber's Coffee Grog, Florodora, and The Communist.
12/12 Charles Dickens' Hot Brandy and Rum Punch
12/19 Christmas Bowl of Bishop (another Dickens recipe, and different than the Oxonian version we served last year). Just like in 'A Christmas Carol.'
12/26 Year in Review II - Vowel Cocktail, Mai Tai, Zombie, Lion's Tail, Millionaire, Derby Cocktail, Lavender Lady and Wintersmoon.
BEER SHOWCASE TUESDAYS
Beertender Matt Thenhuas chimes in this this month’s beer picks:
12/7 Big-ass American Stouts: a bit of the black'n'roasty, including draught Bell's Expedition.
12/14 Holidales: Christmas and pan-winter offerings. Featuring Anchor's "Our Special Ale" (aka their Xmas ale) in bottles.
12/21 All I Want For Christmas: Staff Picks--in which select beer-minded staff members choose their picks for Beer of the Year.

MISC. NOTES
We’ll have a Pigtail Promenade (party) on the 28th, a Tuesday. Craziness will ensue. Tie up that mop into a fine set of tails, drop by and see what develops... Our Late Night Lit series started with a reading of Bukowski in early December, with participants huddling ‘round the fire for some beatness. We’ll post our January reading details(Allen Ginsberg) on the Facebook page closer to the event... And check out our bookshelf. Take one, leave one. Some good titles there!... Keep in mind that you can park on the Modern Kitchen & Baths lot most evenings; on Monday and Thursday, they stay open ‘til 9, but after that, consider curbing your ride there, as well as alongside our building, with spacious street parking on Juniata... Local art star Dana Smith is working on some amazing paintings of Royale life. He’s in on most Sunday nights with an sketch pad, so say “hello” and watch his progress.
