Feel free to discuss your goals and aspirations, with the knowledge
that the public will see notes of all events tomorrow.
Your Day 1 Senate Vote:
Mark Antony, the consul of Rome, doesn't care to show up for the job.
You will need to elect a Consul Pro Temps.
You will also need to combine together to formulate an argument
against that whom you consider a tyrant. (Caesar).
Well, I'll leave you all to that.

Ahem. Senator1 would be so kind as to not make blanket statements as
to who is here and who is not.
Ah, but I disgress. Down to buisness, shall we?
Who, would like to nominate themselves for Consul pro temp? Or..if
you're feeling uncharisterically altruistic, would like to nominate
someone else?
I feel we should get that triffling buisness out of the way before we
get down to the real matter at hand, and we all know what *that* is
and how it should be removed. Ahrmf.

I would like it very much if we waited on the other Senators before
making decisions without them. I apologize my pacing about, but I have
been waiting for what feels like hours now, and my bottom was starting
to go numb.
You are correct, this is a matter that needs to be settled quickly, so
that we may find Antony and resolve that little problem. We do have a
Republic to maintain!
Also, I see from your attitude and choice of vocabulary that you are
either someone I may call friend, or someone I may have to keep my eye
on... One in the same person, but how, sir, may I know your intentions
are in line with mine?
I would trust we are all in favor of the same goal... that being the
protection of the Senate and its members. Are we in accord?

Yes the protection of the senate and the republic is of course
paramount in importance to me. Though I will make no quams that mine
own life in these troubling times is rather important to me as well.
I'm sure you feel the same.
Frankly in the matter of Anthony if he doesn't fathom us important
enough to grace us with his... illuminous presence, I feel electing
one of our esteemed members Consol Pro Temp is the only sensible
course of action.
Also I might add that the two of us are the only ones who it is
apparent *didn't* get lost on the way to the forum, that one of us two
might be the best choice for this...esteem position.

It is not that nobody else is here... it is merely that some of us
keep our words more closely guarded and observe the situation... That,
and the doorman had told me that I was the only one here when I first
arrived, and every time I looked in afterward.
As for a consul pro tempore... there is one of us who is numbered
first. I suggest that we merely obey the will of the gods, who have
named one of us Primus. Senator 1, I nominate you.
Also, I would like to know where Senators 2 and 4 are—if they are here
or not. Unless the Gods have named us only odd numbers. That would be
strange... but then again, the Gods have a logic all their own.

Greeting fellow senators. I'm glad that the forum has filled up since
my last visit earlier today. I hope I find each and everyone of you
well in health and in good finances.
I do agree with SS5, our election of a Consul Pro Temps is but a small
matter compared to the safety of our great Republic. However, this is
very much a necessary chore, so let us get this over with first.
Basing our votes on the time one entered our esteemed forum is
foolhardy. Sitting in an empty room before the official meeting time
is hardly a sign of great ability.
We also know little of who the other senators are. It seems that we
have been masked behind common names, perhaps this is a conspiracy on
the part of Caesar? I will support the nomination of SS5, as it
appears that s/he is particularly fond of speaking, and perhaps would
thus be a suitable choice. I will also humbly place myself before you
as contender in this election. I have been a senator of many years,
and my experience will no doubtlessly serve us well in the coming
days.
Furthermore, I have recently acquired many goats, and we all know the
famous saying, "Every great many had a goat". In my case, I have
several.
As for our formal statement, perhaps once

As I was saying, perhaps we can decide on our formal statement about
that traitor Caesar after this election is concluded.

Senator3's logic seems as sound as any we are to find in these times.
The Gods deemed fit to place Senator1 first numerically and frankly we
have little other information to go on at this point.
I will second the nomination of Senator 1 for Consol Pro temp and ask
that Senator4 change his vote so we may get this over with and down to
the real matters of importance.

Very well... I am glad to see that we are all somewhat here.
Since Senator 5 Seems to be the going choice, I shall cast my vote
that way.
As for Caesar... we must merely remind our good countrymen of the
possibility for great excess and exploitation by an unfettered locus
of power. We, their senators, are subject to their approval, and must
be held accountable to them—but Caesar is absolute, and it would be a
fool who would stand against him. Further, is the motto of our nation
not SPQR - Senatus Populusque Romanus? Where in these words does it
call for a Caesar?
Very well. I await your comments with great interest, my fellow
Senators.

Senator 1 has proven themselves first among many numbers. That is good

WHile I wait for Senator3 to return his vote to senator1 I will agree
with the sentiment of his post.
We must remind the mob that absolute power corrupts absolutely, we
must not abide a tyrant if we wish our beautiful nation of Rome to
remain a shining diamond amongst the barbarian hoardes.

It seems decided, then, that Senator 1 is our new Consul. All
congratulations on such a prestigious post.
To our statement to the populace, now.
We must be certain in our statement to stress the difference between
our power and the power wielded by Caesar. By the casual observer, an
argument against one form of power might be seen as an argument
against all forms, when in fact we merely seek to maintain the
Citizens of Rome as the true power.

We also must remind them that as it stands, the seven of us each
represent one Hill. And citizens of those hills need only look to us
for ther concerns. If Caeser had his way then they would *all* have to
go to him.
How would one citizen make their voices heard over the rest of the
screaming rabble? Ceaser would never have the time, NOR the desire to
listen to their concerns.

Well, I've never been one for acceptance speeches, so I hope a simple
"Thank you" will suffice.
As we seem to be all met now, I agree that we must, as Senator3 so
succinctly put it "stress the difference between
our power and the power wielded by Caesar". The only issue, as we well
know, is how to go about this, and bring the common people back to our
side, without drawing undue attention to ourselves in public, and thus
risking losing one of our distinguished members.
We may wish to see where the public opinion lies before attempting to
swing the vote in the Republic's favor. We may not, as of yet, have to
sway the minds of the masses. Let us gain the trust of the public,
slowly. Let them believe we are of the same cloth as they, for a time,
at least. The public opinion may sway itself in our favor over the
course of this day.
Do not forget that we do not know who Caesar is yet, and it would hurt
the image of the senate if we are seen collectively condemning the
innocent.
I suggest that for this day, we gather as much information as we can,
and vote as we please.

Senators! how good it is to see you. We have much to discuss.
What are your options for consul? senators # 1-5? maybe it would just
be easier to just give all of our powerful positions starting with c
to the same person? picking a consul from a room full of anonymous
strangers doesn't seem like much of a choice. if we have nothing else
to choose on (Aidentas?) then I will support the decision for 1.
more seriously, I am glad to see senators 3 and 5 have said what I am
already thinking. The senate has always served the people of Rome. I
would be happy to endorse our ethical form of government over Caesar's
villanous dicatorship but I am better at counting people than I am at
talking to them. Caesar's support among the people worries me but
there is no ethical wrong in supporting a war hero. Supporting a
dictator is another matter entirely.

I have a solution.
We are naught but the servants of the people, so let us put the
question to them: Do they prefer the supreme, abusive authority of
Caesar, or the respectful, responsible guidance of the senate? And so
forth.
We can lay out the cases for each, and leave it to the citizenry to
decide.

May I suggest the following be presented to the citizens?
Citizens of Rome-
We, the Seven Senators of Rome, send our greetings to you, our
constituents. We are ever your humble servants, representing your
interests and guiding you towards a brighter, better future.
We—all of us, Senatus Populusque Romanus—are faced with a choice.
On one hand sits Caesar. He will claim that he alone knows best what
the needs of Rome are. He will claim that he ought to have unfettered
power, and he will promise not to abuse it.
Yet, you, the citizens of Rome, can see the folly in these claims.
With great power, the temptation to use it to your own gain is nigh-
irresistible. Caesar will ask that you grant him this power, with no
check on it, and give you his word that he will rule you justly,
fairly, and honorably.
What guarantee is this? A man whose only accountability is to the Gods
is not to be trusted. What he does to you, the Gods will forgive if he
venerates them well. They will punish him if he crosses them, but if
he is careful in his worship, he will never do that.
What is necessary is accountability... to the people. We, the Senators
of Rome, are accountable to you, and no-one else. When we act against
your will, you vote for someone else, and we no longer serve you. When
we act in accordance with you, you continue to support us, and we
continue to serve you. We are merely your servants, chosen as
extensions of your will.
It is to you to choose your sides, and we are confident that you will
choose wisely.

wise speeches. I am, as ever, a humble believer in the Republic and
the senators at the helm. Caesar must not be given power.
