Print Coop Meeting 12/7/10

Kindly hosted by Laurie Rossbach in her space, 2717 Atwood Avenue
(Building owned by Goodman Community Center)

Attending: Tracy, Sara, Erica, Laurie, Emily, Lisa, Jonas, Barry,
_____, Max, Heather, Eric.

Laurie reports that the Musicians who had been practicing in the
“Left” largest space have moved across the hall. That largest space
with the storefront windows is now available. There are reasons to
hope that Goodman is looking more towards keeping the building rather
than selling it.

Erica reports that she investigated PayPal and we would be able to use
it for monthly payments- it will allow for automated repeated
payments. To set up a PayPal account, we will need to get a bank
account.

The space in the Atwood building was discussed, compared and
contrasted with other spaces in the area such as the Accipiter project
in the former Anderson Thomas building, which does not appear to be
moving forward at present. Also discussed were the Garver Feed Mill
project and the Winnebago Studios.

There seem to be two primary groups of people involved in the Print
Coop- The first group is primarily looking to the Coop for studio
space. The second group already have studio space but are looking to
the Coop for social, collaborative, and/or educational opportunities.

This brings the question- Should we have Open membership or Tiered
membership? The people using Coop space as their studios are probably
going to use the space more. On the other hand, studio use will
probably be very individualized and it's difficult to draw lines on a
gradient.

The names of people known to need studio space were discussed. [NOTE:
If you need studio space and are hoping the Print Coop will be your
way of getting it, PAY ATTENTION to the Google Group. You'll want to
make sure you are on the list!]

To move forward:
-- We need to create a proposal for the Goodman Center (owners of the
building).
-- There will be one or two people who are willing to put their names
(and money) on a lease.
-- We need to draft an agreement for the artists involved.
-- We need to raise funds (by collecting money and maybe by selling
stuff "Rent Party? Art Sale?")

A timeline for the action was discussed: IF our goal is to move in in
February, we will need to get the plans in order in January. So by Mid
January, we should have a plan ready to present to Goodman, at the
very least.

We will create a “Doodle Poll” to identify an ideal cost of membership
and the estimated number of hours we (Coop members) expect to use the
space. We should probably ask about what kind of memberships our
members would want (open or tiered).

The Plan Committee was named: Erica, Emily, Jonas, Heather. They will
meet next week (and probably more) to work on the poll and on writing
the plans. They are keenly interested in getting the Coop space going
because they need studio space.

Adjourned.

Thank you, Sara!

Jeff is the name left blank on the "attending" list.

The only other thing I wasn't certain was here is that for the Goodman
space on Atwood Avenue we're discussing a three-month trial rental--
that's not carved in stone, but made this next step feel less risky.
