Just spoke to Italia Sands who had been in contact with "Operation Potcake" an organisation that have conducted big spay/neuter clinics for dogs in Nassau during the last three years I think it is. On account of the Distemper outbreak they will not do any dogs this year but are planning to do Cats Only and are willing to come to Eleuthera to do the same here. Their aim would be 300 cats, possibly spread between north and south. Need to know if you all feel this is feasible. They are talking of sending 4 vets who will need to be put up etc. My personal feeling, and Phyllis Kemp agrees, is that we would not be able to come up  with that many animals.  Would like to have everyones input.

Joan,

We would love to help with Op Potcat but it will be difficult to come up with 100 stray cats.  We know of a few that are attached to families and are probably capturable but getting pure strays is extremely difficult and scratchy.  I don’t mind dog bites but wild cats are really hard to handle and are unpredictable. We would need X cat traps and a few days to catch X cats.  Getting more than one per trap per day is not possible.  Holding trapped cats until we accumulate a lot is possible but difficult.

I would be interested in discussing the problem of distemper in Nassau preventing Operation Potcake from working in Eleuthera on dogs. We had a couple of suspected distemper puppies at our place that came from Palmetto Point and went to Nassau where they reported that the problem was distemper.  Thing is, there were no more cases from PP and we suspect they picked it up in Nassau.

We should be back on island 16Nov14.
