Susan,
People parked on the lot without permission during the Square Fair and it was a little irritating yet helpful, but I’m not the owner of the property, The Peoples Theatre Inc. membership continues to be its owner. I brought this up via email asking to allow our membership to park in the lot or charge the public to raise needed funding. We would supervise the lot and mark it off for our members for the day to make sure that they have a place to park. The board was not in favor of letting just anybody park there. We need to provide perks for our membership for supporting such a risky and lofty goal as the ‘visual & performing arts facility’ and this is one way to do it.
If we get The P.T. Inc. membership to park on the lot that will leave parking spaces around the downtown square. Would Tony, Karen, you, and the car club understand if we limited the arrangement to this condition??? I think it is very reasonable and would open up the street parking for others. I can check with City Police and Joyce for the best entrance in and out of The P.T. Inc. and I can spray paint lines on the lot to provide visible zoning for through traffice and parking blocks.
In reality The Corporation needs members and funding and this is a good way to give something back. There is a limit to the number of vehicles that can get on the lot so it will have to be determined by the size of member contribution. The membership is up to 103 members (far from the 2,000 goal in 2009) so we’ll send out a letter asking who would like to park in the lot for the day. They’ll need to show their membership card and should request a replacement if lost.
Let me know if you want the board to pursue this arrangement ASAP so I can get the gears turning. If this will work, I’ll measure, mark, and create a parking model to send out to our members.
NOTE TO BOARD OF DIRECTORS: Please respond with comments, suggestions, opinions both pro & con. Am I in line with what we have discussed about the vacant lot vs parking conditions?? Let me know.

Mark,
At the car club meeting last night it was asked that I contact you to see “if” we run out of room to park cars on the square if you would allow us to park some of them on your lot where the theatre will be built. Would you allow us to do that? I would really love to have that be a problem but in the event we run out of room I’m not sure what plan “B” would be. Tony and Karen Wolken suggested this. Let me know.
Thank you!
Susan
