Alert from ACLU of Ohio: Senate Bill 172 -
Senate Bill 172
is primarily aimed at forbidding attempts to prevent arrest, detention, etc. of undocumented immigrants. This bill also contains its own broad language explaining anyone suspected of being an undocumented immigrant is not (emphasis mine) “privileged from arrest, detention, or being taken into or held in custody by a federal, state, or local law enforcement agency anywhere in this state under any circumstances, with or without a warrant, and regardless of whether the proceedings are administrative, civil, or criminal in nature, for removal or other immigration related purposes or proceedings.” SB 172 also makes it illegal for state and local government entities to “obstruct or otherwise interfere, directly or indirectly, with a federal, state, or local law enforcement agency or officer who is arresting or detaining a person, taking a person into custody, or holding a person in custody.” This provision appears to be in reference to what are sometimes called sanctuary policies, which can include a variety of definitions and stipulations. This bill passed the Ohio Senate in June, 2025. It’s in the Public Safety Committee of the House (https://ohiohouse.gov/committees/public-safety). This bill is not up for a vote as of 3/22/26.  You can contact your representative in Columbus and let them know your concerns. Find your representative here: https://www.house.gov/representatives/find-your-representative.

Shaker and Cleveland Heights Flock No Organizing Meeting - Sunday, March 29, 2026, 3-5pm, location will be shared closer to date of event. Flock is a license plate tracking camera system that both Cleve. Hts. and Shaker Hts. have contracts with. It is dangerous for immigrant rights because it facilitates mass surveillance. Learn about Flock, why we must terminate these harmful contracts, why just limiting formal  or front door access to our data to ICE will not keep us safe ultimately, and organize to terminate these contracts in our cities.

Individuals and Organizations Needed to Help the Cleveland Non-Violence Network Tree March to be held on Saturday, April 11, 2026, 10-12. The March will start at 10 am at the Langston Hughes Branch of the Cleveland Public Library, 10200 Superior Ave, Cleveland 44106 and end at Brookdale Orchard, 1379 East 88th Street. Some trees from the March will be planted at the orchard. We would like at least 200 marchers carrying tree saplings with 100 people or groups previously committed to planting, nurturing and reporting 3 times a year for 5 years on the well-being of their adopted saplings after the march. The purpose of the Tree March is to provide a hopeful vision of peace for the world through planting trees that can inspire and shelter future generations. Simultaneously, the Tree March is a protest of the ballooning of the US war budget to $1.5 Trillion for the fiscal year of 2027. The US military is the largest carbon emitter in the world emitting approximately as much as the country of Venezuela. Planting trees is a way to combat global carbon emission because trees reabsorb carbon from the atmosphere. Use this link to sign up for the Tree March, to pledge to plant and care for a tree, and/or to add your organization as a participant:

Tesla Takedown/No Kings 3 - Saturday, March 28, 2926, 12 pm to 2 pm, 5180 Mayfield Rd, Lyndhurst 44124-2406. If you are most comfortable in a smaller venue, join us from 12 - 2 pm at the weekly Protest at Tesla as we celebrate No Kings 3. Please note an Important Change! Lyndhurst has designated the area around the Tesla Dealership to be a Quiet Zone. Any activity that encourages honking could result in police giving citations. The protest will continue but it’s important that people understand the change that has taken place and decide if they want to participate or not. The Quiet Zone designation also applies to the area in front of City Hall down the street. The police  began pulling over honking motorists on March 14th, giving a warning this time. Please note that this is a peaceful protest. We oppose violence, vandalism and destruction of property. This protest is a lawful exercise of our First Amendment right to peaceful assembly. Rules & Reminders: Bring a sign. Stay on the sidewalk & allow pedestrians to pass. Do not jaywalk across Mayfield Road (police will be watching and may issue a ticket). Use the crosswalk just west of Tesla. Don't block driveway entrances or exits. Don't harass Tesla customers or employees. Do not argue with counter protesters. Watch for peacekeepers in yellow vests and immediately report any disturbances to them. Follow any instructions from Lyndhurst Police. Parking is available at Messiah Lutheran Church, 5200 Mayfield Road. Please be respectful and park on the EAST SIDE of the lot first (away from the Tesla Store). This protest is endorsed by NEO indivisible.
