Legislative Alert: The bill to overturn the 20-year mining ban near the Boundary Waters of Northern Minnesota passed the House and is heading to the Senate floor. On Monday, April 13, the U.S. Senate will reconvene and the final countdown to protect the Boundary Waters begins. The Congressional Resolution deadline for HJR 140 runs out towards the end of April. So the vote could happen anytime after April 13th.  This resolution is Representative Pete Stauber's attempt to use the Congressional Review Act (CRA) to overturn the 20-year mining ban protecting the Boundary Waters watershed from toxic copper mining. This bill would not only eliminate current protections but also prevent future administrations from using the same safeguards on the Boundary Waters. Call your senators and demand a NO vote on HJR 140. More information and help contacting your senators is at:  https://www.savetheboundarywaters.org/action-center.

Community Conversations on Health, Science, and Technology in the Service of Justice with Professor Lynette Hammond Gerido - Thursday, April 16, 2026, 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm,

Case Western Reserve University School of Law, 11075 East Blvd, Cleveland 44106. The CWRU Social Justice Institute presents Dr. Gerido whose work is driven by a central question: how do we have honest conversations about science and technology when innovation is inseparable from histories of exclusion, unequal recognition, and structural harm? New technologies promise better prediction, earlier diagnosis, and more personalized care, but they also raise enduring questions about power, trust, representation, bias, and accountability. This event is open to the public.

Cleveland May Day 2026: Workers Over Billionaires - Friday, May 1, 2026,

4 – 6pm EDT, Cleveland Public Square, 1 Public Square (Southwest Quadrant near Tower City), Cleveland 44114. Our Demands for May 1st - No more war. Billions for war and genocide profiteers, while private prisons expand and schools close. - Tax the rich so our families, not their fortunes and the war, come first. - Abolish ICE. No private armies terrorizing our neighborhoods.

Labor is the source of all wealth, and entitled to all it creates. So we are showing our unity through a day of No Work No School No Shopping. The event is organized by local labor, environmental, and social justice groups, including the Ohio Working Families Party and Sunrise Movement. Please note: A core principle behind all our events is a commitment to collective safety through nonviolent action. International Workers Day has historically been targeted, indeed May Day's roots lie in Haymarket Square. We encourage all participants to seek to de-escalate potential confrontation.
