Solidarity Sessions -- Class Struggle Unionism
February 17th, 24th, and March 3rd
6PM, location available upon registering
Registration and additional details
In partnership with FRSO Cleveland, NEOWC is excited to tackle Joe Burns' seminal book, Class Struggle Unionism.
“Class Struggle Unionism not only defines the urgency of our common struggle, it's a textbook on how to organize around our common demands right where we work in order to build a movement strong enough to realize an inclusive economy and thriving democracy." - Sara Nelson, International President of the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA, AFL-CIO
Facilitated by FRSO Cleveland's Mike Bellamy, we work to understand answers to the following questions posed by the book:
- How to relate to the union establishment which often does not want to fight?
- Whether to work in the rank and file of unions or staff jobs?
- How much to prioritize broader class demands versus shop floor struggle?
- How to relate to foundation-funded worker centers and alternative union efforts?
- And most critically, how can we revive militancy and union power in the face of corporate power and a legal system set up against us?
Alright, we hop to see you there! Register at the link in the bio so we can make sure you have all the most up-to-date information related to location, timing, etc.

Signal Chat-- Cleveland Caucus
2024 was the first year that the NEOWC staff attended the Labor Notes conference. Unsurprisingly, it lived up to the hype and then some. It was truly a magical couple of days filled with all of the brightest, most passionate labor leaders, organizers, and working people. We've been dreaming about going back with a big group of Cleveland pals ever since! If you've been on the fence about going or are just hearing about it for the first time --- do it!! And then join our local Signal chat so we can meet up at the conference, share learnings, and coordinate travel plans!
May Day Strong Coalition!
May Day is a celebration of International Workers' Day. May Day was established to honor the Haymarket Square Martyrs and is a recognition of the sacrifices that working people have made to advance our movement. Each year, NEOWC, joins a coalition of organizations to celebrate May Day. Planning is currently getting underway. If this is something you'd like to help organize -- please respond to this email and we will get you connected!

Solidarity Action Alerts!
Workers are organizing across the city! Here are a couple of ways you can show your solidarity this month:
Conn-Selmer Workers Rally. Conn-Selmer is trying to silence the music in Eastlake and ship the operations overseas! Join UAW Local 2359 in the fight against corporate greed, the fight to keep jobs in the U.S! The rally will take place this Thursday, February 5th at the Four Points Hotel in Eastlake Ohio at 5pm.
Starbucks Workers United. Follow their social media to learn more about the ongoing strike.
Rising Star Union. NEOWC was proud to be supporting workers at Rising Star as they organized their workplace! In December, they won their union election and are officially affiliated with OPEIU. You can follow them on instagram!
Kinnect United. Heather Jamison, a beloved co-worker and staff trainer, was unfairly terminated from her position at Kinnect in retaliation for union organizing. You can support her directly by donating to a fundraiser organized by the Kinnect United union.
UH Concerned Physicians Union. Sign the petition to protect the right of workers to organize UH and demand the jobs of the fired physicians to be reinstated. The UH Doctors are working hard to get their petition to 10,000 signatures!
