Good afternoon,

This week Representative Brewer announced a coordinated series of violence prevention actions. The initiative focuses on engaging trusted community leaders and partners to prevent violence before it occurs, provide life-saving tools, and commit to ending violence in Cuyahoga County.

The effort includes training, remembrance, public engagement, and a forthcoming P.L.A.N. Ohio Town Hall and Resource Fair. Together, these actions bring residents, businesses, faith leaders, and prevention organizations together around a shared message: enough is enough violence must end.

The first event will be a Hip Hop Stop the Bleed training, designed to teach critical, life-saving skills for emergency situations. The training is geared toward bartenders, security personnel, servers, DJs, promoters, and community members, with a focus on preparedness and immediate response to traumatic injuries in public and entertainment spaces. The event will also include food, music, and facilitated community conversations.

WHAT:          Hip Hop Stop the Bleed Training

WHERE:       Platform 13 Event Center, 7500 Cedar Avenue, Cleveland OH 44103

WHEN:          Tuesday, January 2oth, from 5:00 to 9:00 PM

The second action will be a moment of silence and community pledge. During the weekend of January 24, entertainment venues, businesses, and community spaces across the region are encouraged to pause for a moment of silence to honor victims of violence in Ohio, including gun violence, domestic violence, physical violence, suicide, and other preventable harms. Participants will also be invited to sign the Cuyahoga County Stop the Violence Pledge, committing to non-violence, prevention, accountability, and community responsibility.

On Saturday, January 24, 2026, barbers, beauticians, club owners, and business leaders are being asked to use their voices and spaces to help stop violence before it starts. As trusted messengers in their communities, they hear the stories, see the pain, and have influence that matters. Participants are encouraged to:

  • Speak with your customers and clients about non-violence
  • Share the message that violence is preventable
  • Encourage others to take the Stop the Violence Pledge

On Sunday, January 25, 2026, ministers and faith leaders are invited to join the effort by:

  • Praying intentionally for an end to violence, healing for families, and wisdom for our communities.
  • Tailoring sermons, remarks, or teachings around non-violence, reconciliation, accountability, and the sanctity of life.
  • Reinforcing the message that violence is preventable, and that faith calls us to stop harm before it starts.

In the coming weeks, our office will host a P.L.A.N. Ohio Town Hall & Resource Fair, centered on the framework of Prevent, Listen, Act, and Navigate. The event will elevate lived experiences and connect community members directly with resources addressing:

  • Gun violence prevention
  • Physical and community violence
  • Domestic violence
  • Suicide prevention
  • Trauma and grief support
  • Family stabilization and healing services

Organizations and individuals working in violence prevention, trauma response, mental health, family support, re-entry, youth development, and crisis intervention are invited to participate in the resource fair. Interested parties are encouraged to contact our office to share their information and be included in planning and outreach efforts.

Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions.

Thank you for your continued support,
