Andrée Murphy

Andrée Murphy is a leading Irish human rights advocate, writer, and commentator, known for her long-standing work on victims’ rights, post‑conflict justice, and constitutional change. Originally from Dublin and based in Belfast since 1994, she is a board member of Ireland’s Future, the civic organization working to promote inclusive dialogue and preparation for potential constitutional change and a future referendum on Irish unity.


Murphy is the Deputy Director of Relatives for Justice, a Northern Ireland NGO that supports those bereaved or injured during the conflict. With two decades of experience, she specializes in trauma-informed advocacy, particularly supporting women affected by conflict. She holds an LLM in International Human Rights Law and Transitional Justice.


A prominent political commentator, she writes regularly for the Belfast Media Group and is a frequent contributor across radio and television. Her commentary focuses on legacy issues, policing, human rights, the Good Friday Agreement. architecture, Brexit, and the political participation of women.


She has represented victims and human rights interests before bodies including the United Nations Committee Against Torture in Geneva and U.S. congressional hearings. Murphy is also a co-host of the Ireland’s Future Podcast, where she engages with public figures, academics, and civic leaders about preparing for a united Ireland. Through her work with Ireland’s Future, she has contributed significantly to international outreach, including to the Irish diaspora in the United States, emphasizing civic planning and inclusive dialogue as essential steps toward constitutional change.
