Hi Bethany,
A few more thoughts...If I am following Daniel's logic, we must throw out the Bible as God's revelation to man because it is full of propositional statements about the nature and character of God. Daniel says we cannot take statements about God to be true, he says "...Only our experience...can be true." This is an astounding statement when you think about it.
Also I have rarely heard about the erotic love of God from Christian thinkers, much less about "erotic energies" being exchanged. I think the word in the Greek is agape, right? I am thinking of Lewis's Four Loves. Also, our union with Him is two persons uniting, not two "energies." Two persons and two "energies" are quite different are they not?
I would be curious as how Daniel would counsel the young woman I described were he her pastor and she his parishoner. In his view, if there is no sin and no evil, how is what she is doing wrong? Is she not just searching for God through erotic union with a man of her choice?
Yours,
Esther
Do either of you mind if I email Daniel your responses to his article? I know he would appreciate it- he loves discussing theology. (and i would love to know how he handles both of your points!)
Thank you so much for sharing, I love “chewing” on all this stuff.
Peace,
