Here's some rough theoretical timeline parameters for canvasing. Not
bad, I think.

this looks good. I think we might need to try to recruit a few more
people to help canvas. That shouldn't be too tough though. I can't
wait to be living there and "get started!!!"

Did anyone take time to confirm the 500 house number? I think that
was just a rough guess, but it may be off by a hundred... I don't
know if you have the aerial photo of the target area, but you can also
get lots of info off Portland Maps -- I'd do the count for you now,
but I have to pack two lunches, get two kids off to school, and off to
work myself.

Also, depending on the dates you select, I may be able to be one of
your canvassers. You'll have to bring me up to speed on CCN and NICE
-- and I'm not sure if you need to be a CCN member to represent the
organization. Obviously what I can best represent is SunNE, and I
know people throughout the neighborhood.

A quick count gives me about 350-375 single family homes and/or
duplexes in the target area. Belmont to Hawthorne, 39th to 33rd/32nd
(jogs around a couple blocks). I did not include single family homes
fronting on Hawthorne, Belmont and 39th, as we don't anticipate
running pipes under those busy streets.

Obviously we'll have to figure out what the relationship is with the
owners of apartment buildings or condos in the area. Ideally, they
will be on the system too, as they are bundled customers. We've
already had discussions with Belmont Lofts on the corner of 35th and
Belmont. Looks promising. I guess the thing to do is to identify if
multi-unit buildings are condos or apartments, then get the contact
info for either the owner or the chair of the homeowners association
(if condos).

And we'll also want to assign some canvassers to businesses on those
streets. While we don't anticipate trenching on Hawthorne, Belmont,
and 39th, we still may approach the commercial spaces from the side
streets and run pipe so that we can gather solar thermal or PV from
those empty rooftops. So we'll need to gather info there too. The
business associations on both Belmont and Hawthorne know about the
project and are friendly to it. They could be helpful in identifying
building owners and facilitating the info gathering. Bill Stites is a
good contact person at BABA and Karen Davis(?) at HBBA -- see website
at http://www.thinkhawthorne.com/. Their next meeting is June 11, and
then July 9 after that. I can go if noone else is available.
