Problem Accessing backup

My computer crashed on me, but i was able to get it up and running long
enough to copy all my documents onto some cd's. But i had to do format the
hdd and do a clean install of windows. The problem is that now i can't
access half the stuff i copied to the cd, it shows the directories but
nothing in them.. I know the data is there, because i can see how much space
is used on the cd.. Is there anyway of accessing the stuff?
