Desktop and Taskbar missing??

hello all. I am having a problem. whenever i boot up windows and sign on,
my desktop and taskbar are missing and an explorer window opens up to my
documents. safe mode and emergancy repair from the cd have no effect. has
anyone ever heard of this? thanks

your problem is probally that the windows 2000 service, explorer.exe is not
running- (explorer.exe is the service that shows the desktop and taskbar) to
fix this simply press contrl-alt-del, then under the task manager click
file-new task type explorer.exe and your taskbar and desktop will be put
back on. this will probally fix it.
