Hi Mine!peeps

I've heard some whispers about the efforts being done on the GUI or GUIs.
Any news worth sharing?
Any input to be welcomed?

Greetings
Mathias

Yes, Mathias, your inquiry couldn't have come at a better time! UI has
indeed been keeping us busy (and awake at night as it's crucial to
Mine! adoption). I have been working with Ketan and Carrie, two
devoted Mine! project groupies. :)

Ketan has been taking me and Carrie (who is working on the UI from the
user point of view, a 'user designer', if you will) through the
structure and thinking we need to do before even attempting
wireframes. Just yesterday afternoon we had one of our face to face
sessions, which are infrequent but very productive.

So far we have made progress on 'process flows', which should be
connecting the user experience to the underlying code. Ketan and Alec
are going to make sure the two are aligned in the next couple of
weeks, right after Carrie and I finish the user storyboard. Once we
have done that, we are ready to start on wireframes. It's been a slow
process, as Carrie and I are learning everything from scratch and so
any help will be welcome and appreciated.

We are using Omnigraffle and once we consolidate yesterday's UI
session, I'd be happy to share and perhaps talk it through (via
skype)?

Best,
A xx

I'd be interested in that too but I don't want to turn it into a
calendar synchronisation problem. If you let me know when you're
planning on doing it I'll join if I can.

Richard, totally understand.

We'll keep the list posted on our UI efforts so others can join in as
convenient for them. For most part, it's been a huge learning curve
from me and Carrie and some amazingly patient and erudite instruction
from Ketan.

We should step up the pace and it'll be good to have others from the
project involved.

Thanks!

Hi Adriana

That's great.
Crucial indeed.

When discussing the Mine! with people we often conclude
"yes, but that should be solved by the clients"
so I'm curious as to how the current sketches are solving different issues :)

I'd like to join a skype session when possible.
If there's a longer session planned one of these weeks,
I could hop over to London too.

Greetings
Mathias

Mathias, seeing you in London would be great. Will let you know what's
planned etc..

As for the 'solved by the clients' it's the function of the
user-driven approach we are taking to Mine! Also, many of the things
that I hope Mine! will enable will come from applications built in
later but that's another discussion. For now, we try to make sure that
the minimal functions works well, with as much freedom for the user to
drive Mine! as currently possible.

I'd be really interested to see the results of this because I have some background in UI design and these models will help me to understand how you envisage Mine! being used. So far I'm excited by the principles of VRM and Mine! but not sure what kind of use cases you have in mind.

Looking forward to see what you come up with

Ben, Mine! came out of the user need, i.e. the need I have to own,
manage and share my data. After almost two years of working on it and
talking to many people, I don't have any concerns about how it'll be
used! Everyone seems to have their own ideas about the use and that's
how it should be.

FYI, when I mention user storyboard, I don't mean use cases. There are
already some mentioned in one of the Mine! papers but frankly, the
whole use case approach to UI doesn't really work for me.

More to follow as promised above..

A xx
