Established in 1776 in Bavaria by Adam Weishaupt (1748-1830), the Illuminati continues to be a highly debated and controversial secretive organization. Throughout its nearly two-and-a-half-century existence, the Illuminati has been the focus of countless conspiracy theories worldwide, earning a reputation as a mysterious society.
Notably, the Illuminati is often attributed with the creation of the well-known pyramid-and-eye emblem, known as the Christian Eye of Providence, later adopted by Freemasonry. This symbol is also featured on the Great Seal of the United States and is imprinted on American banknotes, solidifying its cultural significance.

Freemasonry, the world's oldest fraternal organization, is often shrouded in secrecy with its ancient rituals, peculiar emblems, and clandestine handshakes. But what exactly does all that symbolism mean, and where did it come from?
    Square and Compasses
The square and compasses, the most distinguishable symbol of Freemasonry, symbolize the merging of the material and spiritual realms.
These architect's tools are used in Masonic rituals and carry heavy symbolism in their lessons. 'Duncan's Masonic Monitor' from 1866 explains: "The square, to square our actions; The compasses, to circumscribe and keep us within bounds with all mankind."

Founded in 1897 in the United States, the Improved Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the World (IBPOEW) is an African-American fraternal order that mirrors the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. Originally established due to the denial of admission to Black men in the latter organization, which remains prosperous today, they adopted the order's name and created their own club. During the segregated era, the IBPOEW lodge was one of the few places where Black men and women could socialize. Presently, the previously secretive order has become more transparent, and its historical significance as a hub of activism remains a focal point of its public perception. Depicted in the image is a 1963 civil rights rally where IBPOEW members march on Boston Common.
